Web design for nurseries and childcare

A parent is deciding who to leave their child with.

There is no harder sale in any sector, and no sale where marketing language helps less. What a parent wants is your registration, your fees including what the funded hours actually cover, your ratios, and to walk round the room and see it for themselves. A website that arranges that visit as easily as possible is doing the only job that matters. We build it that way, host it and look after it, with a £0 upfront website design fee.

  • Per month: £49.99
  • Upfront website design fee: £0

Registration

Registration and your last inspection, near the top.

Every parent will look these up before they visit, so there is nothing to gain from making them hunt. A nursery that links to its own inspection report reads as confident; one that hides it invites the assumption that there is something to hide.

We display exactly what you hold and nothing beyond it. We never overstate an inspection outcome, imply a rating you do not have, or publish a child's image or name without documented parental consent.

  • Your registration with the relevant early years regulator, and your registration number
  • Your most recent inspection outcome, and a link to the report itself
  • Your staff qualifications and the ratios you work to
  • Safeguarding and designated lead arrangements
  • Paediatric first aid and food hygiene certification
  • Your food and allergy policy, and whether meals are prepared on site
  • Your policies: settling in, illness, medication, behaviour, complaints
  • Reviews and testimonials from parents who have given permission

What parents look for

Six things a parent notices, and five of them are not on your website.

Nurseries write about curriculum and philosophy. Parents are looking at whether the staff seem happy, whether the room smells right, and what happens when a child cries. You cannot photograph most of that, but you can write about it honestly.

  1. 01

How long the staff have been there

The single strongest signal a nursery can give. High turnover frightens parents more than anything else, and a settled team is worth saying out loud.

  2. 02

What happens when a child is upset

The question every parent has and none of them ask. Describing your settling-in approach, and being honest that some children take weeks, is enormously reassuring.

  3. 03

The garden, and how often they use it

Outdoor space is high on almost every parent's list, and "every day, in all weather, with spare clothes" says more than a photograph of it in June.

  4. 04

    Food, and who cooks it

On site or delivered, how allergies are handled, and whether a fussy eater will be pushed. Practical, and parents genuinely worry about it.

  5. 05

How you tell them about the day

An app, a book, a conversation at pickup. Parents want to know they will hear something more than "he's been fine".

  6. 06

What the day actually looks like

An honest timetable from drop-off to pickup, including naps and meals. It lets a parent picture their own child in it, which is the whole point.

None of this is marketing language and all of it converts, because it is what parents are actually weighing up on the drive home from a visit.

Visiting

The visit is the decision. Everything else arranges it.

No parent chooses a nursery from a website, and a site that tries to close the sale itself feels wrong. Its job is to make somebody comfortable enough to come and look, and to tell them what will happen when they do.

See the full process, start to finish

  1. 1

    Arrange a visit

Say how, and how quickly. Whether you show people round during session times, which most parents prefer because they see it in use.

  2. 2

    The look round

Who shows them, how long it takes, whether children can come, and that they can ask anything. Removing the formality is what makes people book.

  3. 3

    Fees and availability

What is available and when, discussed openly at the visit rather than left to a follow-up email that never comes.

  4. 4

    Settling-in sessions

How many, how long, and that they are included. This is the part new parents worry most about and it deserves explaining properly.

  5. 5

    Starting

What to bring, what happens on the first morning, and how you will let them know how it went.

Timing, stated properly

We aim to have your first website draft ready within 5 working days once PrimeStart has everything needed and confirms your project is Ready to Build. Payment alone doesn’t start the clock; missing details, revisions or domain delays can extend it.

Before you approve

You review the draft and request reasonable in-scope changes. If there’s a genuine problem we can’t put right within scope after reasonable attempts, we can cancel the agreement and refund Website subscription payments made, subject to any disclosed non-recoverable third-party costs.

Fees and funding

Explain the funded hours properly. Almost nobody does.

Government-funded early years hours are the most misunderstood thing in the sector. Parents believe they are free, arrive expecting no bill, and are upset by charges nobody explained. Setting it out clearly, in advance, prevents nearly every difficult conversation you will otherwise have.

  • What the funding covers, and what it does not

The number of hours, the terms it applies over, and that it does not necessarily cover a full day or a full year. Written plainly, without jargon.

  • Stretched hours

Whether you spread funded hours across more weeks at fewer hours, which is what many working parents actually need and few nurseries explain.

  • Additional charges

Meals, nappies, consumables and hours beyond the funded entitlement. Naming these before somebody applies is far better than at the first invoice.

  • Your fees in full

Sessions, full days and part weeks, with what each includes. Parents are budgeting to the pound and comparing three nurseries.

  • Notice, deposits and holidays

How much notice to change or leave, whether you charge over holidays, and what happens if a child is ill.

On wording

Funded early years entitlements differ across the UK nations and change from time to time. We write your fees and your funding arrangements from what you supply, in general terms, and you approve every word. We do not advise parents on their eligibility.

Where families come from

Nurseries are chosen within a mile of home or work.

Almost nobody drives past a nearer nursery to reach a better one, because the run happens twice a day for years and every extra minute is felt. That makes this one of the most tightly local decisions any family makes, and it means naming the specific roads, estates and villages you serve is worth far more than describing a town.

The other route is word of mouth inside a very small world: NCT groups, baby classes, the school gate of an older sibling. Those recommendations are always checked online before anybody rings, so the website's job is to confirm what the friend said — the settled team, the garden, the honest fees — and make arranging a visit take two taps rather than an email exchange.

Your site plan

Five pages, and every one of them points at a visit.

Registration, rooms, the day, fees and a visit. A nursery website does not need more, and everything else dilutes the one action that matters.

SEO

Parents start looking before the baby arrives.

Website + SEO is optional monthly work on how easily local customers find you, aimed at three searches agreed with you. Nursery searches happen months ahead of the place being needed, which makes visibility a long game and an unusually valuable one.

  • £349.99/monthTotal. The website is included: the £49.99 Website is not added on top.
  • 3 searchesAgreed with you at the start. Additional agreed search targets are £50/month each.
  • Monthly workSearch and competitor research, website improvements, Google Business Profile work, local listings, technical monitoring and a clear monthly report in your Client Platform.
  • 6-month minimumAfter the SEO minimum you can continue, or stop the SEO work and keep the Website for the rest of its 18-month term. Every month of it counts towards both.
What we don’t promise

This is an illustration of a results page, not a promise of a position. Nobody can guarantee where a website appears on Google, and we do not.

Three example searches

  1. nursery Chelmsford
  2. day nursery Chelmsford
  3. childcare Chelmsford

One place filled is worth a great deal over the years a child attends, and siblings usually follow. That makes even a handful of enquiries a month genuinely significant. We research your area first, recommend three that make commercial sense, explain why, and agree them with you before any work starts. Additional agreed searches are +£50 a month each.

Already have a website you are happy with? Ongoing SEO is only available with the managed website, as Website + SEO — PrimeStart does not run SEO on a site it does not host. If you would rather keep your current site, talk to us first and we will tell you honestly whether moving it across is worth it.

The plans

The same nursery website, with or without the monthly SEO work.

The Website is the whole thing: designed, built, hosted, managed and kept current, with your domain name included. Website + SEO adds monthly work on how easily local customers find it. Clear pricing. Straightforward terms. No surprises.

A nursery website that shows registration honestly, explains funding properly, and makes arranging a visit effortless.

Designers usually charge for the build before the website exists. We absorb that cost and recover it through the monthly service, which is why the plan carries a minimum term, and why there is nothing to pay up front beyond the first month.

Complete the term and the website is yours: stay with us on a rolling basis with no new minimum, or move it to hosting of your own.

Questions nurseries ask us

How much does a website for a nursery cost?
£49.99 a month. The upfront website design fee is £0 and your first £49.99 payment is taken at signup. The Website runs on an 18-month minimum term: 18 monthly payments of £49.99, or £899.82 in total. That covers the design and build, managed hosting, your domain name, SSL, security, backups, WordPress and plugin updates, enquiry forms, basic Google foundations, reasonable small changes subject to fair use, and your Client Platform.
What happens at the end of the 18 months?
The website is yours. Once the minimum term is complete and the payments due under it have been made, you can stay with PrimeStart at £49.99 a month on a rolling basis with no new minimum term, or move the website elsewhere and arrange your own hosting. Transfer is subject to the relevant third-party licences, which we explain at the time.
Is the domain name included?
Yes. Your domain name is included in the Website and managed by PrimeStart alongside the hosting and the SSL certificate. If you already own one, we work with the domain you have.
Can we show photographs of the children?
Only where you hold written parental consent for website use specifically, and we will ask you to confirm that for every image. Many settings choose photographs of the rooms, the garden and the resources instead, sometimes with staff, which avoids the issue entirely and works perfectly well.
Should we publish our fees?
Yes, in full, including what the funded hours do and do not cover and every additional charge. It is the single biggest source of complaints in the sector, almost all of it caused by parents discovering charges late. Publishing them attracts families who have already accepted the cost.
Our last inspection was not our best. Do we have to mention it?
We would show it and link to the report, because parents check regardless and finding it themselves after you omitted it is far worse. What we would also do is describe honestly what has changed since, which is a much stronger position than silence.
How quickly will I see a first draft?
We aim to have your first website draft ready within 5 working days once PrimeStart has everything needed and confirms your project is Ready to Build. Payment and onboarding alone do not start that period. Nothing is published until you have reviewed and approved it.
What is SEO, and do I need it to start?
SEO is optional ongoing work on your visibility for three agreed local searches, at £349.99 a month in total with the Website included: the £49.99 is not charged on top. The SEO work has a 6-month minimum, and every month of it also counts towards the 18-month Website term. It suits nurseries because families search months ahead and one place filled lasts years. Nobody can promise a position on Google or a number of enquiries, and we do not.
