Web design for music teachers

The piano was bought in lockdown. Nobody has touched it.

That is who is searching: a parent whose child asked for lessons a year ago, or an adult who has finally decided that this is the year. What stops them is not the price. It is not knowing whether you teach beginners, whether they are too old, whether they have to do exams, and whether you have a slot that fits around everything else. Answer those and the enquiry arrives. We build the site that way, host it and look after it, with a £0 upfront website design fee.

  • Per month: £49.99
  • Upfront website design fee: £0

Who is asking

Three learners, and two of them think they are not allowed.

Adults assume they have left it too late and beginners assume they need to already be musical. Saying otherwise, explicitly, reaches a large group of people who would never have made contact.

Usually the parent enquiring

They want to know the age you start from, whether exams are compulsory, how much practice is expected and whether it matters that nobody at home plays. The last one worries them more than the cost.

What the site leads with

  • From age 6
  • Exams optional
  • Practice, honestly

One line saying "adults are very welcome and it is genuinely never too late" produces more enquiries than any other sentence a music teacher can publish.

Rates

By lesson length, and what happens in the holidays.

Music lessons are a long-term commitment paid weekly, and the questions are always the same: how much, how long, what about half term, and what if we go on holiday. Answering them on the page saves a fortnight of emails.

  • Say how the term works

Whether you charge termly or weekly, what happens over half term and holidays, and what notice is needed. The most common source of confusion by far.

  • Be honest about practice

How much you expect, and what happens when a child does not do it. Parents appreciate honesty far more than a promise that it will be effortless.

  • Say who supplies the instrument

Whether a piano at home is needed to start, or whether a keyboard is fine for the first year. It removes a genuine barrier for a lot of families.

Rates shown are the example teacher's illustrative figures. Yours are your own, and we change them whenever you want.

Booking

A slot, not a lesson. That is what is being booked.

Music teaching runs on recurring weekly times, so an enquiry is really about whether a particular slot exists. Showing which times are free, honestly, turns a vague message into a specific request you can say yes to.

  • Be honest that after school is full

It always is, and saying so redirects the flexible people to the slots you actually have rather than losing them entirely.

  • Ask what they want to play

"My daughter wants to learn the songs she listens to" tells you the whole lesson. It is a much better first question than asking about experience.

  • Offer a first lesson, not a term

One lesson to see whether the teacher and the student suit each other, with no commitment beyond it. Almost nobody offers this and it converts extremely well.

Reassurance

Parents check three things and ask about none of them.

Your DBS, where the lessons happen and whether they can stay. Putting all three on the page, unprompted, removes an awkward conversation and makes you the obvious choice over somebody who left it unsaid.

We display exactly what you hold and nothing beyond it: no invented qualifications, no fabricated results, no claims about students you cannot evidence.

Things we'll display if they apply to you

  • Your enhanced DBS certificate and when it was issued
  • Your musical qualifications and teaching training
  • Whether you are a member of a teaching body
  • Where lessons happen: your home, theirs, or online
  • Whether parents can stay, and where they wait
  • The exam boards you prepare students for, if any
  • Public liability insurance where you carry it
  • Reviews from families who have agreed to them

Requirements around working with children differ by setting and by nation. You tell us what checks and qualifications you hold and we display precisely those. We never publish a child's name, photograph or exam result without written parental consent.

Where students come from

Good music teachers are full and invisible at the same time.

Almost every established teacher fills their diary through schools, other parents and word of mouth, and never advertises at all. It works until a group of students finishes at the same time, or a family moves, and then there is no way to refill except asking around. A website is the thing that turns an unpredictable trickle into a waiting list you can draw from.

The searches are small, specific and firmly local: an instrument, a level and a place. Naming the villages you cover and being clear about whether you travel matters enormously, because a weekly lesson has to fit into an already full school-night schedule. And adults, who are a large and underserved part of this market, search differently and need explicitly inviting.

Your site plan

Four pages, and one of them is aimed at adults.

A music teacher's site should be small, warm and specific. The biggest opportunity in it is a page that tells grown-ups they are allowed to start.

More about the Client Platform

Illustration of the Client Platform for a fictional music teachers & schools business. SEO reporting is included with Website + SEO.

SEO

Three searches, and one of them is an adult being brave.

Website + SEO is optional monthly work on how easily local customers find you, aimed at three searches agreed with you. Music teaching has small search volumes and exceptional retention, which is a very favourable combination.

  • £349.99/monthTotal. The website is included: the £49.99 Website is not added on top.
  • 3 searchesAgreed with you at the start. Additional agreed search targets are £50/month each.
  • Monthly workSearch and competitor research, website improvements, Google Business Profile work, local listings, technical monitoring and a clear monthly report in your Client Platform.
  • 6-month minimumAfter the SEO minimum you can continue, or stop the SEO work and keep the Website for the rest of its 18-month term. Every month of it counts towards both.
What we don’t promise

Nobody can promise a position on Google, and we do not. What we commit to is the agreed work every month, tracking what happens, and changing course when the evidence says to.

  1. 01
    “piano lessons near me York

The main one, mostly parents, mostly in September and January. Local, specific and winnable, because most teachers have no website at all.

  2. 02
    “guitar lessons for beginners York

Often a teenager or a parent buying a first guitar. The word beginner is doing the work: they are checking they will not be out of their depth.

  3. 03
    “adult piano lessons York

Smaller, and the best students you will get. Adults choose deliberately, practise because they want to, and stay for years.

One student taking a weekly lesson for five years is worth several thousand pounds, which makes even one or two new students a year a comfortable return. We research your area first, recommend three that make commercial sense, explain why, and agree them with you before any work starts. Additional agreed searches are +£50 a month each.

Already have a website you are happy with? Ongoing SEO is only available with the managed website, as Website + SEO — PrimeStart does not run SEO on a site it does not host. If you would rather keep your current site, talk to us first and we will tell you honestly whether moving it across is worth it.

The plans

The same music teaching website, with or without the monthly SEO work.

The Website is the whole thing: designed, built, hosted, managed and kept current, with your domain name included. Website + SEO adds monthly work on how easily local customers find it. Clear pricing. Straightforward terms. No surprises.

A music teacher's website that invites adults, publishes rates and shows which slots are genuinely free.

Designers usually charge for the build before the website exists. We absorb that cost and recover it through the monthly service, which is why the plan carries a minimum term, and why there is nothing to pay up front beyond the first month.

Complete the term and the website is yours: stay with us on a rolling basis with no new minimum, or move it to hosting of your own.

Want PrimeStart working on how customers find you? Website + SEO is £349.99 a month in total, with the same website included. The same managed website, plus monthly work on three agreed local searches, where one student can stay for five years. How SEO works

How it works

Your part takes less time than a lesson.

Choose a plan, send us your instruments, rates and slots, then tell us what to change on the draft. We do the rest.

See the full process, start to finish

  1. 1

    Choose your plan

Website, or Website + SEO. The upfront website design fee is £0 and your first monthly payment is taken at signup.

  2. 2

    Tell us what you teach

A short onboarding in your Client Platform: your instruments and levels, your rates and term arrangements, your availability, your DBS and qualifications, and where enquiries should land.

  3. 3

    Ready to Build

We check we have what we need. If a rate or an arrangement needs a decision, we say exactly which, and get on with the rest.

  4. 4

    First draft

A working draft on a phone first: the lessons, the rates and the slot enquiry.

  5. 5

    Approve and launch

Reasonable in-scope changes, then you approve it. Nothing is published until you say so.

Timing, stated properly

We aim to have your first website draft ready within 5 working days once PrimeStart has everything needed and confirms your project is Ready to Build. Payment alone doesn’t start the clock; missing details, revisions or domain delays can extend it.

Before you approve

You review the draft and request reasonable in-scope changes. If there’s a genuine problem we can’t put right within scope after reasonable attempts, we can cancel the agreement and refund Website subscription payments made, subject to any disclosed non-recoverable third-party costs.

Questions music teachers ask us

How much does a website for a music teacher cost?
£49.99 a month. The upfront website design fee is £0 and your first £49.99 payment is taken at signup. The Website runs on an 18-month minimum term: 18 monthly payments of £49.99, or £899.82 in total. That covers the design and build, managed hosting, your domain name, SSL, security, backups, WordPress and plugin updates, enquiry forms, basic Google foundations, reasonable small changes subject to fair use, and your Client Platform.
What happens at the end of the 18 months?
The website is yours. Once the minimum term is complete and the payments due under it have been made, you can stay with PrimeStart at £49.99 a month on a rolling basis with no new minimum term, or move the website elsewhere and arrange your own hosting. Transfer is subject to the relevant third-party licences, which we explain at the time.
Is the domain name included?
Yes. Your domain name is included in the Website and managed by PrimeStart alongside the hosting and the SSL certificate. If you already own one, we work with the domain you have.
I am completely full. Is a website a waste of money?
Being full is exactly when to build one, because the diary always empties eventually and refilling from nothing is stressful. A site that keeps a modest waiting list running means you replace students as they finish, and it lets your rate rise over time rather than staying where it was in 2019.
Should I publish my rates?
Yes. It is the first question in every enquiry, and an unpublished rate makes people assume the worst. Publishing by lesson length, with how terms and holidays work, means the messages you get are from people who have already accepted the price.
Can I mention exam results?
In general terms, and never a named student's result without written parental consent. Distinctions and merits at a school level are fine to describe generally; specific claims about individual children are not something we would publish.
How quickly will I see a first draft?
We aim to have your first website draft ready within 5 working days once PrimeStart has everything needed and confirms your project is Ready to Build. Payment and onboarding alone do not start that period. Nothing is published until you have reviewed and approved it.
What is SEO, and do I need it to start?
SEO is optional ongoing work on your visibility for three agreed local searches, at £349.99 a month in total with the Website included: the £49.99 is not charged on top. The SEO work has a 6-month minimum, and every month of it also counts towards the 18-month Website term. It suits music teaching because retention is measured in years. Nobody can promise a position on Google or a number of students, and we do not.
