Web design for private tutors
The parent searching at ten at night is worried, not shopping.
A mock result came back worse than expected, or a teacher said something at parents' evening, and now somebody is looking for a tutor with mounting anxiety and no idea what any of it should cost. What reassures them is not a list of subjects. It is knowing exactly which exam board and level you teach, what you charge, that you are DBS checked, and that you have space. We build the site around that, host it and look after it, with a £0 upfront website design fee.
- Per month: £49.99
- Upfront website design fee: £0

Rates
Publish the hourly rate. Parents are comparing anyway.
Tutoring rates vary enormously and parents have no reference point, so an unpublished rate reads as expensive. Showing it by level, with what a lesson includes, means the enquiries you get have already accepted the price.
- Say what a lesson includes
Planning, resources, marking between lessons and a note to parents. Rates look very different once somebody knows what sits behind them.
- Travel, if you do it
Whether you teach at your home, theirs or online, and whether travel is charged. It changes the price and the practicality.
- Cancellations, kindly worded
Twenty-four hours, and what happens if a child is ill. Written warmly it prevents almost every awkward conversation.
Rates shown are the example tutor's illustrative figures. Yours are your own, and we change them whenever you want.
Reassurance
A parent is letting you near their child and their child's confidence.
Both matter, and the second is often the bigger worry. Safeguarding credentials, teaching background and how you work with a child who has lost confidence are what turn an anxious search into a message.
We display exactly what you hold and nothing beyond it: no invented qualifications, no fabricated results, no claims about grades you cannot evidence.
Things we'll display if they apply to you
- Your enhanced DBS certificate and when it was issued
- Your teaching qualifications and any qualified teacher status
- Your degree and subject background
- Examining or marking experience, where you have it
- The exam boards and specifications you teach to
- Whether lessons are at your home, theirs, or online, and who else is present
- Public liability or professional insurance where you carry it
- Reviews and references from families who have agreed to them
Requirements around working with children differ by setting and by nation. You tell us exactly what checks and qualifications you hold and we display precisely those. We never publish a child's name, photograph or results without written parental consent, and we would generally advise against it entirely.
What you teach
Name the exam board. It is what separates you from a listing.
"GCSE maths" is what a directory says. "Higher tier, and I teach to the specification your child is sitting" is what a tutor who knows the subject says, and a parent can hear the difference immediately.
The bulk of the work, and the most anxious parents
Usually starting in year 10 or in a panic in year 11. Naming the tiers and boards you teach, and being honest about what is achievable in the time left, matters more than anything else on the page.
- Higher and foundation
- Named boards
- Past papers
Fewer students, higher rate, longer relationships
More demanding to teach and usually booked for the whole two years. Parents are less involved and the student is often the one making contact.
- Two-year support
- Modules
- University plans
Started early, planned carefully
Families begin eighteen months out and want structure rather than intensity. Being clear that this is a programme, not a crash course, sets the right expectation.
- Structured
- Long lead time
- Reviewed termly
Be honest about what you do not teach. A tutor who declines a subject outside their specialism is far more trusted than one who accepts everything.
Where families come from
One school gate produces most of a tutor's diary.
Tutoring spreads through year groups. One parent mentions you at pick-up, another asks in a class chat, and within a term you have three students from the same school sitting the same paper. That makes local visibility unusually valuable and unusually efficient, because the students cluster and the reputation compounds inside a small community.
It also means the practical details do the converting. Whether you teach at your home or travel, whether you offer online lessons, which evenings you have free and whether you have space at all are the things a parent needs before they can even imagine booking. Naming the towns and the schools' catchment areas you serve is worth far more than describing a county.

Your site plan
Four pages, and availability is on all of them.
A tutor's website is small by nature. What it has to do is answer subject, level, rate and availability before a worried parent loses their nerve.

SEO
Three searches, and September and January are everything.
Website + SEO is optional monthly work on how easily local customers find you, aimed at three searches agreed with you. Tutoring demand is violently seasonal, and being visible in the first week of a term is worth more than the rest of the year put together.
- £349.99/monthTotal. The website is included: the £49.99 Website is not added on top.
- 3 searchesAgreed with you at the start. Additional agreed search targets are £50/month each.
- Monthly workSearch and competitor research, website improvements, Google Business Profile work, local listings, technical monitoring and a clear monthly report in your Client Platform.
- 6-month minimumAfter the SEO minimum you can continue, or stop the SEO work and keep the Website for the rest of its 18-month term. Every month of it counts towards both.
Nobody can promise a position on Google, and we do not. What we commit to is the agreed work every month, tracking what happens, and changing course when the evidence says to.
- maths tutor near me
- GCSE tutor near me
- 11 plus tutor near me
The spikes are the start of the academic year, January after mock results, and the panic in the spring before exams. Visibility for those weeks has to be built months earlier. We research your area first, recommend three that make commercial sense, explain why, and agree them with you before any work starts. Additional agreed searches are +£50 a month each.
Already have a website you are happy with? Ongoing SEO is only available with the managed website, as Website + SEO — PrimeStart does not run SEO on a site it does not host. If you would rather keep your current site, talk to us first and we will tell you honestly whether moving it across is worth it.
The plans
The same tutoring website, with or without the monthly SEO work.
The Website is the whole thing: designed, built, hosted, managed and kept current, with your domain name included. Website + SEO adds monthly work on how easily local customers find it. Clear pricing. Straightforward terms. No surprises.
A tutor's website that answers subject, level, rate and availability before a worried parent loses their nerve.
Designers usually charge for the build before the website exists. We absorb that cost and recover it through the monthly service, which is why the plan carries a minimum term, and why there is nothing to pay up front beyond the first month.
Complete the term and the website is yours: stay with us on a rolling basis with no new minimum, or move it to hosting of your own.
Want PrimeStart working on how customers find you? Website + SEO is £349.99 a month in total, with the same website included. The same managed website, plus monthly work on three agreed local searches, built up before the September and January spikes. How SEO works

How it works
Your part takes less time than planning a lesson.
Choose a plan, send us your subjects and rates, then tell us what to change on the draft. We do the rest.
- 1
Choose your plan
Website, or Website + SEO. The upfront website design fee is £0 and your first monthly payment is taken at signup.
- 2
Tell us what you teach
A short onboarding in your Client Platform: your subjects, levels and boards, your rates, your availability, your DBS and qualifications, and where enquiries should land.
- 3
Ready to Build
We check we have what we need. If a rate or a subject needs a decision, we say exactly which, and get on with the rest.
- 4
First draft
A working draft on a phone first: subjects, rates, availability and the enquiry form.
- 5
Approve and launch
Reasonable in-scope changes, then you approve it. Nothing is published until you say so.
We aim to have your first website draft ready within 5 working days once PrimeStart has everything needed and confirms your project is Ready to Build. Payment alone doesn’t start the clock; missing details, revisions or domain delays can extend it.
You review the draft and request reasonable in-scope changes. If there’s a genuine problem we can’t put right within scope after reasonable attempts, we can cancel the agreement and refund Website subscription payments made, subject to any disclosed non-recoverable third-party costs.
