Highgate

One name for two trading places, split down the middle by a borough boundary.

The Neighbourhood Plan, adopted by Camden and Haringey in 2017 following a local referendum and now part of planning law, formalises three separate commercial cores under a single name. The Village, around the High Street, Pond Square and South Grove, is small-unit and high-value: a bookshop, galleries, dentistry and private health, dry cleaning, estate agents, delis and an unusually high density of pubs. Archway Road, the long A1 arterial parade running down the hill, is a different kind of place entirely: destination shops, services, pubs and an arts centre, alongside acknowledged empty-unit problems. Aylmer Parade is the third, smaller core.

This is also split across boroughs in a way most north London localities are not. Camden runs the south and west, Haringey the north and east, and Islington touches the south-east corner: two councils, two business-rates administrations and two planning authorities for a single postcode district. The tube station sits on Archway Road, below the Village rather than in it. That split is exactly what confuses a map listing or a search result about where a business actually is.

The local residents' society has been convening Archway Road businesses with Camden and Haringey officers and councillors specifically to help revitalise the parade and find uses for its empty units. A website can't fill a shop, but it can do the one thing an empty neighbour's unit and a confused council boundary both work against: state, unambiguously, which core a business trades from and how to reach it, so a Village customer choosing on reputation and an Archway Road customer choosing on search both find the right business first.

The search carries the place name. It never carries the borough.

"Dentist Highgate", "estate agent N6", "cafe Archway Road": whoever is searching has no idea, and no reason to care, whether the result they need sits in Camden or Haringey. Ongoing SEO is monthly work on three agreed searches like these, so more of those customers get the chance to find the right business.

An illustration of the kind of local results SEO works towards. The businesses, ratings and positions shown are examples, not a ranking or a result for any particular business.

  1. 01
    “dentist Highgate

The Village has a genuine private-health cluster around the High Street, and this is a registration search: people read the page properly, check the clinicians by name and decide on reputation as much as location.

  2. 02
    “estate agent N6

A postcode search precisely because the borough is confusing. Someone valuing a property here wants an agent who covers the actual street, not one who happens to be listed under the wrong council area.

  3. 03
    “cafe Archway Road

Passing, arterial trade rather than destination browsing. Chosen fast, on a phone, by opening hours and whether the location is obviously on the right stretch of the A1.

Examples only. The three searches are agreed with you around the work you want more of and what people searching for Highgate actually type. Nobody can promise a position, and we don't.

Highgate industries

The trade decides the shape of the site. The core it trades from decides the tone.

A dental practice near Pond Square and a cafe on Archway Road need very different websites. Each starts from how its customers choose, then states plainly which Highgate core, and which borough, it trades from.

Eighteen months, then the website is yours.

The Highgate Neighbourhood Forum was redesignated by both Camden and Haringey in September 2023 for a further five years, committed to the same three commercial cores for the long term. Complete the minimum term on your website and it's committed to you the same way: yours after eighteen months, whichever council happens to bill your business rates.

  1. Month 1 We design and build it

Your first £49.99 is taken at signup. We build the website around your business and you approve it before anything is published.

  2. Months 1 to 18 We host, manage and support it

Hosting, security, backups, updates and reasonable small changes, while you make the monthly payments. 18 payments of £49.99, £899.82 in total.

  3. After month 18 The website is yours

Complete the minimum term and the payments due under it, and the website belongs to you. It was built for your business, and it stays with your business.

  4. Your choice Stay, or move it

Stay with PrimeStart at £49.99 a month on a rolling basis with no new minimum term, or move the website to hosting of your own.

Moving the website elsewhere is subject to the third-party licences any website relies on, such as WordPress, plugins, fonts and stock photography. The full wording lives in the Website Subscription Terms.

Everything a Highgate business needs from its website, in one monthly plan.

Design, build, hosting, security and the ongoing technical work are all part of the same plan, so there is nothing to add on and nothing to remember to renew.

View all FAQs · All locations

Do you work with businesses in both the Village and on Archway Road?
Yes, and on Aylmer Parade too, across both Camden and Haringey. Everything is designed, built and managed remotely, so there is no office to visit and no travel to arrange, whichever side of the borough boundary you trade from.
Our business is technically in Camden, or Haringey, but everyone just calls it Highgate. Does that matter for the website?
It's exactly the problem the site needs to solve. Highgate is split between Camden in the south and west and Haringey in the north and east, with Islington touching the south-east corner, so a business's official borough and its actual trading identity are often different things to a search engine. We write the site around the Highgate name and the real streets you're on, so customers find you regardless of which council administers your rates.
We have a website already. Can you work on how we are found instead?
No. SEO is not sold on its own any more — it is only available as part of Website + SEO, £349.99 a month in total, which means a new PrimeStart website rather than work on the one you have now. Highgate is still a good example of why the search side matters so much here: a business sitting across a Camden and Haringey boundary has its location data pulled in two directions at once, whatever site it is on. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
What does a Highgate business website cost?
Website is £49.99 a month with a £0 upfront website design fee, and it costs the same in N6 as anywhere else. The first £49.99 is taken at signup, and there is an 18-month minimum term, £899.82 in total. Once that term is complete, the website is yours.
Archway Road has empty units. Will a website really help fill mine?
A website can't fill a shop on its own, and we won't claim it can. The Highgate Society has been working with Camden and Haringey specifically on Archway Road's empty units, which is a bigger job than any single business's marketing. What the website does is make sure your unit is the one that shows up correctly when someone searches, rather than being lost behind the confusion of which borough Archway Road sits in.
How does ongoing SEO work?
Website + SEO is £349.99 a month total, with the website included rather than charged on top. Each month we work on three agreed local searches, for example "dentist N6", alongside your Google Business Profile and the website itself, then report on what was done. It creates more chances for the right local customers to find you. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
We already do well on reputation in the Village. Do we need SEO as well?
Reputation covers the customer who already knows the High Street and already knows you. It does very little for someone searching from further off, especially where the borough boundary already makes Highgate harder than most places to locate correctly online. Those are two different audiences from the same site.
