Kentish Town Road runs from Camden Road to Highgate Road. "Somewhere on the road" is not an address a search can use.

Kentish Town

A genuine parade, adopted as a conservation area in 2011, running the length of a lost river's old course.

The Kentish Town Conservation Area appraisal, adopted in February 2011, covers Kentish Town Road as a former elevated suburb built along the buried course of the River Fleet - a continuous run of shopfronts from the Camden Road end up to the Highgate Road junction, longer than almost anything else in this part of Camden. Two stations anchor it: Kentish Town, an interchange between the Northern line and Thameslink, and Kentish Town West on the North London Line, which closed after a fire in April 1971 and did not reopen until October 1981.

The Assembly House at 292-294 Kentish Town Road is Grade II listed, built in 1898, and its interior is on CAMRA's National Inventory of historic pub interiors - a fixed, recognisable point roughly midway along the road that a search can be anchored to. Behind the road, the Bartholomew Estate, a conservation area of its own since 2000 bounded by Islip Street, Bartholomew Road, Oseney Crescent and the rear of Kentish Town Road, is residential and holds no shops - it is not a second parade, and a website should not describe it as one.

A 2005 shopfront survey found 53 of the road's 87 shops independently owned, though that figure is now two decades old and chain replacement of independents on the road is documented as having accelerated after 2009, so it describes a moment, not the road today. What has not changed is the road's length: a business near the Kentish Town station end and one near Highgate Road are both correctly described as "Kentish Town Road", and a search for either needs the actual stretch named to land on the right one.
