Web design for driving instructors

Learners ring five instructors. Two answer. One has space.

That is the whole market. Nobody is comparing teaching philosophies at seventeen; they are trying to find somebody with a slot, a price they can afford and a car that turns up. An instructor whose website shows the hourly rate, the block price and whether there is a waiting list wins before the other four have listened to their voicemail. We build it that way, host it and look after it, with a £0 upfront website design fee.

  • Per month: £49.99
  • Upfront website design fee: £0

Prices

Hourly, block of ten, and what happens on test day.

Learner drivers and their parents are budgeting for something that will cost well over a thousand pounds by the end, and they are trying to work out the total. Three clear prices and an honest word about how many lessons people usually need is the most useful page you can publish.

  • Say roughly how many lessons

People genuinely do not know. Being honest that most learners need a substantial number of hours, and that it varies, prevents the disappointment that ends a booking at lesson twelve.

  • Separate your fee from the test fee

The DVSA charge is not yours and confusing the two makes you look expensive. One line settles it.

  • Say what happens if they cancel

Notice period and what happens to a block. Written kindly, it saves the argument and protects your diary.

Single lesson£38Per hour, door to door. Most pupils take two hours a week, which is where progress actually happens.
Block of ten£360Paid in advance, saving £20. Blocks also mean your slot is held, which matters when the diary is full.
Test day£95Use of the car for the test plus the hour before. The test fee itself is paid to the DVSA separately.

Prices shown are the example school's illustrative rates. Yours are your own, and we change them whenever you want.

Where you teach

Door to door only works if the door is nearby.

Every minute driving to a pickup is unpaid, which is why instructors work tight patches and why saying exactly where you cover saves everybody a phone call.

  • Name the test centre

Pupils and parents want to know which centre you teach around, because familiarity with the routes genuinely matters to them.

  • Pickup from school or work

Sixth formers and shift workers need collecting from somewhere other than home. Saying you do it is a real differentiator.

  • Be honest at the edges

Somewhere twenty-five minutes away is a lesson you will resent. Publishing the boundary is kinder than declining later.

Pickups from home, school or work within these areas.

Booking

Say whether there is a waiting list, and how long.

Good instructors are usually full, and hiding that wastes everybody's time. A page that says "three-week wait, join the list" converts better than one implying immediate availability, because it signals that you are worth waiting for.

  • Ask whether they have a licence yet

A provisional licence is needed before the first lesson and a surprising number of people have not applied. Asking on the form saves a wasted first appointment.

  • Ask if they have driven before

Complete beginner, a few lessons elsewhere, or returning after a failed test. Three different first lessons and worth knowing in advance.

  • Weekly slot, not one lesson

The booking that matters is a recurring time. Framing it that way from the start builds the diary properly.

Qualification

Fully qualified, or a trainee. Learners deserve to know which.

Approved driving instructors display a green badge; trainees display a pink one, and both are legitimate but they are not the same thing. Stating yours clearly, along with your grade if you have one, is straightforward and most instructors never bother.

We display exactly what you hold and nothing beyond it: no invented grades, no fabricated pass rates, no claims you cannot evidence.

Things we'll display if they apply to you

  • Whether you are a fully qualified approved instructor or a trainee
  • Your standards check grade, where you are happy to publish it
  • Your DBS certificate
  • Additional qualifications: fleet, advanced, or instructor training
  • Whether the car is dual-controlled and how it is insured
  • Automatic or manual, and whether you teach both
  • Any specialisms: nervous drivers, autism, older learners, refresher work
  • Reviews wherever they already live, from pupils who have agreed to them

Pass rates are published nationally in aggregate and individual figures are easy to misrepresent. We will state your own figure if you supply it and are comfortable standing behind it, and we will not invent or imply one.

Your site plan

Four pages, and the price is on the first one.

A driving instructor's website is small and should be. Price, availability, area and a bit about you is genuinely the whole decision.

The logic of SEO

One pupil is forty hours and three friends.

Website + SEO is optional monthly work on how easily local customers find you, aimed at three searches agreed with you. A learner who gets on with you is worth well over a thousand pounds and reliably brings siblings and friends, which makes each new pupil unusually valuable.

The kind of searches SEO works on

  1. driving instructor Derby
  2. driving lessons Derby
  3. automatic driving lessons Derby

£349.99/month total, website included. SEO never promises a position, a number of enquiries or a revenue figure. It promises the work, every month.

Already have a website you are happy with? Ongoing SEO is only available with the managed website, as Website + SEO — PrimeStart does not run SEO on a site it does not host. If you would rather keep your current site, talk to us first and we will tell you honestly whether moving it across is worth it.

  1. 1

A website that shows the price

Learners and parents ring around comparing hourly rates. Publishing yours means you are compared on the site rather than on a phone call you may not answer while teaching.

  2. 2

Found by the people already looking

SEO is monthly work on the local searches, your Google Business Profile and the listings that decide who appears when somebody near you types driving instructor near me.

  3. 3

    You cannot answer the phone

You are in a car for most of the working day, which is exactly when people ring. A website that takes the enquiry and shows the waiting time is doing the job you cannot.

  4. 4

A full diary is a marketing asset

Saying there is a three-week wait reads as quality. It also builds a list that keeps the diary full through the quieter months.

We research your area first, recommend three that make commercial sense, explain why, and agree them with you before any work starts.

Your Client Platform

Update your waiting time from the car.

Every PrimeStart customer gets their own Client Platform. It is where the project lives: the stage it has reached, what we are waiting on, the draft to look through, and the button that says you are happy with it.

  • Follow the build stage by stage, without emailing to ask
  • Send photographs straight from your phone
  • Message PrimeStart directly, with the whole thread in one place
  • Preview the draft on a laptop and a phone, and mark up changes
  • Approve the website before anything goes live
  • Ask for changes afterwards, and order services when you need them
  • See your SEO report, tracked searches and recommendations each month (Website + SEO)

There is nothing technical to learn. One login to your Client Platform, and you never have to open WordPress.

The plans

The same driving school website, with or without the monthly SEO work.

The Website is the whole thing: designed, built, hosted, managed and kept current, with your domain name included. Website + SEO adds monthly work on how easily local customers find it. Clear pricing. Straightforward terms. No surprises.

A driving instructor's website that publishes prices, shows the waiting list and takes enquiries while you are teaching.

Designers usually charge for the build before the website exists. We absorb that cost and recover it through the monthly service, which is why the plan carries a minimum term, and why there is nothing to pay up front beyond the first month.

Complete the term and the website is yours: stay with us on a rolling basis with no new minimum, or move it to hosting of your own.

Want PrimeStart working on how customers find you? Website + SEO is £349.99 a month in total, with the same website included. The same managed website, plus monthly work on three agreed local searches, where one pupil is forty hours and three referrals. How SEO works

How it works

Your part takes less time than one lesson.

Choose a plan, send us your prices and areas, then tell us what to change on the draft. We do the rest.

See the full process, start to finish

  1. 1

    Choose your plan

Website, or Website + SEO. The upfront website design fee is £0 and your first monthly payment is taken at signup.

  2. 2

    Tell us the basics

A short onboarding in your Client Platform: your prices, your areas and test centre, your qualification and car, your current waiting time, and where enquiries should land.

  3. 3

    Ready to Build

We check we have what we need. If a price or a policy needs a decision, we say exactly which, and get on with the rest.

  4. 4

    First draft

A working draft on a phone first: prices, availability, areas and the enquiry form.

  5. 5

    Approve and launch

Reasonable in-scope changes, then you approve it. Nothing is published until you say so.

Timing, stated properly

We aim to have your first website draft ready within 5 working days once PrimeStart has everything needed and confirms your project is Ready to Build. Payment alone doesn’t start the clock; missing details, revisions or domain delays can extend it.

Before you approve

You review the draft and request reasonable in-scope changes. If there’s a genuine problem we can’t put right within scope after reasonable attempts, we can cancel the agreement and refund Website subscription payments made, subject to any disclosed non-recoverable third-party costs.

Questions instructors ask us

How much does a website for a driving instructor cost?
£49.99 a month. The upfront website design fee is £0 and your first £49.99 payment is taken at signup. The Website runs on an 18-month minimum term: 18 monthly payments of £49.99, or £899.82 in total. That covers the design and build, managed hosting, your domain name, SSL, security, backups, WordPress and plugin updates, enquiry forms, basic Google foundations, reasonable small changes subject to fair use, and your Client Platform.
What happens at the end of the 18 months?
The website is yours. Once the minimum term is complete and the payments due under it have been made, you can stay with PrimeStart at £49.99 a month on a rolling basis with no new minimum term, or move the website elsewhere and arrange your own hosting. Transfer is subject to the relevant third-party licences, which we explain at the time.
Is the domain name included?
Yes. Your domain name is included in the Website and managed by PrimeStart alongside the hosting and the SSL certificate. If you already own one, we work with the domain you have.
I am always full. Why would I need a website?
Because being full is temporary and the diary empties every summer when a group of pupils pass together. A website that keeps a waiting list running means you refill without a scramble, and it lets you raise your rate over time rather than competing on price when it goes quiet.
Can I put my pass rate on the site?
Only if it is your own genuine figure and you are comfortable standing behind it. Pass rates are easy to misrepresent and a claim that cannot be evidenced does more harm than good. What works better is being specific about how you teach and who you are good with.
Should I publish my prices?
Yes. It is the reason people ring, you cannot answer the phone while teaching, and comparing on price is happening whether you publish or not. Showing the hourly rate and the block price means the enquiries you get have already accepted them.
How quickly will I see a first draft?
We aim to have your first website draft ready within 5 working days once PrimeStart has everything needed and confirms your project is Ready to Build. Payment and onboarding alone do not start that period. Nothing is published until you have reviewed and approved it.
What is SEO, and do I need it to start?
SEO is optional ongoing work on your visibility for three agreed local searches, at £349.99 a month in total with the Website included: the £49.99 is not charged on top. The SEO work has a 6-month minimum, and every month of it also counts towards the 18-month Website term. It suits this trade because one pupil is worth forty hours and usually brings friends. Nobody can promise a position on Google or a number of pupils, and we do not.
