Childs Hill

NW2's Childs Hill: two industries, one after the other, and no parade left by either.

Richard le Child held a customary house and 30 acres of land here in 1312, giving the area its name; the earliest documented use of the word 'Hill' appears in 1587. From the 18th century, Childs Hill was a centre for brick and tile making supplying Hampstead, and the Castle Inn is documented on the same ground from 1751. An optical telegraph station operated here from 1789 to 1847, forming part of a line of stations stretching from the Admiralty to Great Yarmouth from 1808.

Finchley Road was built through the area between 1826 and 1829, and Colonel Evans built 'The Mead' in the early 1850s, later renamed Granville Road. Brick-making gave way to a second industry: laundries became a major local business from the 1870s, and the last of them, the Initial Laundry on Granville Road, did not close until 2006. The 2011 Census recorded 6,406 residents in the Childs Hill output areas, within a ward population of 20,049.

Two successive industries, then, have already come and gone from this ground, and neither left a shopping parade behind. What actually works Childs Hill today is trades and small services running from its residential streets around Granville Road - builders, gardeners, cleaners, handymen - with no market of their own to trade from, which means every one of them is found by a search rather than a passer-by noticing a sign.

With no parade on Granville Road or anywhere else in Childs Hill, the search happens instead of a passer-by, not alongside one.

"Builder childs hill", "handyman nw2", "gardener near me": every one of these is typed by someone with no shopfront to walk past and judge you by. Ongoing SEO is monthly work on three agreed searches like these.

  1. 01
    “builder Childs Hill

Typed by a homeowner on one of Childs Hill's residential streets who has no parade to walk down and judge finished work in person.

  2. 02
    “handyman NW2

Searched by someone who knows the NW2 postcode but has no shopping street to find a name from instead.

  3. 03
    “gardener near me

A near-me search across the residential streets around Granville Road, where the result has to be found by the search alone, since there's no market to trade from.

Examples only. The three searches are agreed with you around the work you want more of and what people in Childs Hill actually type. Nobody can promise a position, and we don't.

Childs Hill industries

No parade exists here. Every trade is found by the search or not at all.

A builder and a gardener both working the streets around Granville Road are judged on the same thing: whether a search actually finds them, since two industries have already left this ground without a parade replacing either.

See every industry we build for

Eighteen months, then the website is yours.

The Initial Laundry on Granville Road traded for well over a century before it finally closed in 2006. A website that only ever rents itself back to you monthly doesn't match that kind of staying power. Complete the minimum term here and it belongs to you, whether you stay with PrimeStart or not.

  1. Month 1 We design and build it

Your first £49.99 is taken at signup. We build the website around your business and you approve it before anything is published.

  2. Months 1 to 18 We host, manage and support it

Hosting, security, backups, updates and reasonable small changes, while you make the monthly payments. 18 payments of £49.99, £899.82 in total.

  3. After month 18 The website is yours

Complete the minimum term and the payments due under it, and the website belongs to you. It was built for your business, and it stays with your business.

  4. Your choice Stay, or move it

Stay with PrimeStart at £49.99 a month on a rolling basis with no new minimum term, or move the website to hosting of your own.

Moving the website elsewhere is subject to the third-party licences any website relies on, such as WordPress, plugins, fonts and stock photography. The full wording lives in the Website Subscription Terms.

A short onboarding in your Client Platform: services, areas, anything you want highlighted, your logo, any photos and the number you want calls to go to.

  3. 3

    Ready to Build

We check we have what we need. If something's missing we'll say exactly what, and work with what you have where we can.

  4. 4

    First draft

You see a working draft of your site, on desktop and phone, and tell us what to change.

  5. 5

Reasonable in-scope revisions, then you approve it. Nothing goes live until you say so.

Timing, stated properly

We aim to have your first website draft ready within 5 working days once PrimeStart has everything needed and confirms your project is Ready to Build. Payment alone doesn’t start the clock; missing details, revisions or domain delays can extend it.

Before you approve

You review the draft and request reasonable in-scope changes. If there’s a genuine problem we can’t put right within scope after reasonable attempts, we can cancel the agreement and refund Website subscription payments made, subject to any disclosed non-recoverable third-party costs.

Questions from Childs Hill businesses

Do you build websites for businesses in Childs Hill?
Yes, for the trades and small services working Childs Hill's residential streets. Everything is designed, built and managed remotely, so there is no office to visit.
There's no shop or parade in Childs Hill. Does that matter for a website?
It's the reason the website matters. Two industries, brick-making and then laundries, have already come and gone from Childs Hill without leaving a parade behind, so there's no passing trade anywhere in the area - the site is how a customer finds you at all.
Was there ever a shopping parade in Childs Hill?
Not one that survived. The area's own history is a brick works through the 18th century and then a run of laundries from the 1870s until the last of them, the Initial Laundry on Granville Road, closed in 2006 - neither left a parade behind.
We already have a website we like. Can you just do the SEO?
No. SEO is not sold on its own any more — it is only available as part of Website + SEO, £349.99 a month in total, and that means building you a new PrimeStart website rather than adding search work onto the one you have now. A business in NW2 would be starting from the same place as everyone else here: a new site built around the trade, with the SEO work running from day one rather than retrofitted onto what already exists. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
What does a Childs Hill business website cost?
Website is £49.99 a month with a £0 upfront design fee, and it costs the same in NW2 as anywhere else. The first £49.99 is taken at signup, and there is an 18-month minimum term, £899.82 in total. Once that term is complete, the website is yours.
How does ongoing SEO work?
Website + SEO is £349.99 a month total, with the website included rather than charged on top. Each month we work on three agreed local searches, for example "builder childs hill" or "handyman nw2", alongside your Google Business Profile and the website itself. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
