St Mary's Church has stood on this hill since the 13th century. Search for Hendon today and the results are far more likely to be about a shopping centre eight minutes away by car.

Hendon is an ancient parish - 'Hendun', at the highest hill - whose church at Church End has fabric from the 13th century, a tower built around 1450, and the grave of Sir Stamford Raffles, who founded Singapore in 1819. Hendon Central Underground station opened in 1923 at the junction of the new Watford Way and the road to the old Midland Railway station, and Middlesex University's campus grew from the Hendon Technical Institute, which operated from 1937. None of that is Brent Cross, even though the two names get used interchangeably by anyone typing into a search bar. A business trading near the church, the station or the campus needs a website that says so plainly, rather than one that reads as if it could mean the shopping centre instead. We design, build, host and manage that kind of site for £49.99 a month, and we can work on your Google visibility once it is live.

Hendon
Church End, Hendon Central and Middlesex University: a hilltop parish with a shopping centre's name attached to it by accident of geography.
Hendon became an urban district in 1894 and a Municipal Borough in 1932, absorbed into the London Borough of Barnet in 1965, but the name is far older than either: it is recorded as an ancient manor and parish of Middlesex, meaning 'at the highest hill'. St Mary's Church in Church End carries 13th-century fabric and a tower of around 1450, and holds the grave of Sir Stamford Raffles, founder of Singapore in 1819 - the kind of fact that gives Hendon a genuinely international footnote most NW4 postcodes do not have.
The Northern line reached here in 1923-24, and Hendon Central station was built specifically at the junction of the new Watford Way and the road linking Brent Street to the older Midland Railway station on the far side of the district. Middlesex University's Hendon campus traces back to the Hendon Technical Institute, which ran from 1937 to 1939 before becoming Hendon Polytechnic in 1973. Both the station and Middlesex University's Hendon campus sit around Hendon Central, a genuinely separate commercial point from the shopping centre eight minutes away by car that happens to share the older parish name.
That shared name is the whole problem for a business trying to be found here. A search for 'Hendon' returns two very different places to a customer who does not already know the difference, and a website that never says which one it means loses the customer looking for the church, the station or the campus to one looking for a shopping centre car park instead.

- around Middlesex University's campus
If your business trades near the church, the station or the campus, the site says Hendon Central specifically, not the shopping centre at Brent Cross.
Hendon industries
Whatever the trade, the same shared name works against you here.
An accountant near the station and a tutor near the campus are both searched for under 'Hendon', and both lose custom to a shopping centre neither of them is anywhere near.
Two ways to start around Hendon Central.
A professional website, or that website with ongoing SEO from the start. The website is built to the same standard whichever route you take.

A search for "Hendon" is as likely to mean a shopping centre as it is to mean the church on the hill.
"Accountant hendon central", "solicitor nw4", "dentist near me": each of these needs a result that states which Hendon it means. Ongoing SEO is monthly work on three agreed searches like these.
- 01“accountant Hendon Central”
Typed by someone near the station or the university who wants a result actually placed at Hendon Central, not a shopping centre listing eight minutes away.
- 02“solicitor NW4”
An NW4 search that returns results for the whole postcode area unless the site states plainly which end of it, the church and station side or the shopping centre side, it is actually in.
- 03“dentist near me”
A near-me search made by someone walking from Middlesex University's campus or Hendon Central station, who needs a genuinely close result rather than one nearer Brent Cross.
Examples only. The three searches are agreed with you around the work you want more of and what people around Hendon Central actually type. Nobody can promise a position, and we don't.
