One street's history dominates every search for St Giles. Most of the area's real trade isn't on that street at all.

St Giles

A single music street, a single office tower, and no other high street between them.

St Giles is generally taken as a rough triangle bounded by New Oxford Street to the north, Shaftesbury Avenue to the south-east and Charing Cross Road to the west, with St Giles Circus at the eastern end of Oxford Street as its recognisable core. By the twentieth century, Denmark Street's premises were mostly used by music publishers, and the street became known as Tin Pan Alley; the Denmark Street Conservation Area, originally part of the Bloomsbury Conservation Area from 1984, became its own in 1990 and 1991. Centre Point stands over St Giles Circus, with Central Saint Giles and St Giles-in-the-Fields church nearby.

That single street's reputation is disproportionate to the area's actual trade. Search results for "St Giles" are dominated by Denmark Street's music history, but most of the businesses actually trading here — in and around Centre Point, Central Saint Giles and the surrounding streets — are offices, not music shops. A page written only about the guitar shops describes almost nobody who's actually here.

The area's edges are genuinely unresolved rather than just informally drawn: the boundary with Seven Dials and Covent Garden was not conclusively settled in research, and this page doesn't claim either side of it. What's clear is the two anchors — Denmark Street's shopfronts and Centre Point's offices — and a business needs its website to say plainly which one it's closer to.
