A library, a theatre, a market and a leisure centre all compete for the same search as your business. Naming specifics is how you win it back.

  • Website: £49.99/month
  • Website design fee: £0 upfront

Swiss Cottage

A Finchley Road junction crowded with civic destinations that outrank ordinary businesses for the place name itself.

Swiss Cottage and Finchley Road are designated a town centre in Camden's Local Plan and a district centre in the London Plan, alongside Camden Town, Kentish Town, Kilburn High Road and West Hampstead. It's a junction, not a village: Finchley Road carries the retail, the O2 Centre sits just off it as a shopping complex of its own, and two interchanges converge here, Swiss Cottage on the Jubilee line and Finchley Road on the Jubilee and Metropolitan lines.

Around that retail sits a genuinely civic cluster: Swiss Cottage Library, designed by Sir Basil Spence and Grade II listed, Hampstead Theatre, the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre. Add Swiss Cottage Market on Eton Avenue, a permanent street market since 1 July 2003 trading Tuesday to Saturday, plus a separate Wednesday farmers' market running since 1999, and this is the only locality on this hill that mixes retail, culture and a market in one place, rather than the purely residential streets of Frognal or South Hampstead, or the shopping-free ward of Fortune Green.

That mix is also the search problem. Type "Swiss Cottage" into Google and you're competing with results for the library, the theatre and the market itself, not just other businesses on Finchley Road. Naming the actual market day, which side of Finchley Road you're on, and exactly what you sell does more to separate your business from a civic landmark than the junction's name alone ever will.

The search is shared with a library, a theatre and a market. It can still be won.

"Cafe Swiss Cottage", "shop Finchley Road", "restaurant near Swiss Cottage station": a lot of this searching returns results for the library, the theatre and the market alongside actual businesses. Ongoing SEO is monthly work on three agreed searches like these, so more of that search lands on you specifically.

  1. 01
    “cafe Swiss Cottage

Made by someone at the interchange whose search results are already competing with the library and the theatre, not just other cafes on Finchley Road.

  2. 02
    “shop Finchley Road

Searched by someone choosing between the O2 Centre and the street-level shops on Finchley Road itself, a distinction a website can make and a shared postcode can't.

  3. 03
    “market Eton Avenue

A search on Eton Avenue that often means the market itself, on its Tuesday to Saturday trading days, rather than any single trader within it, which is exactly the noise a specific business has to cut through.

Examples only. The three searches are agreed with you around the work you want more of and what people actually type near Swiss Cottage. Nobody can promise a position, and we don't.

Swiss Cottage industries

The trade decides the shape of the site. The junction decides who you're really competing with.

A cafe on Finchley Road and a consultant near the Library need different websites, but both are sharing search results with a market, a theatre and a leisure centre that outrank ordinary businesses for the place name.

Questions from Swiss Cottage businesses

Is this the same as South Hampstead?
No. Swiss Cottage and South Hampstead are separate identities today: Swiss Cottage is a designated town centre with a market, a library, a theatre and a leisure centre, while South Hampstead is residential with no shop of its own. Each has its own page.
Do you work with businesses on Finchley Road, in the O2 Centre or at the market?
Yes, across all three. Everything is designed, built and managed remotely, so there is no office to visit.
Isn't Swiss Cottage mostly the library, the theatre and the market rather than businesses?
Those civic destinations are real and they dominate a lot of search results for the name, which is exactly the problem this page addresses. A website that names specifics, your street, your side of Finchley Road, what you sell, competes on those terms rather than trying to outrank the library itself.
Is the market on Eton Avenue open every day?
No. The main market trades Tuesday to Saturday, and a separate farmers' market runs on Wednesdays. If your business trades there, the website can say exactly which day and stall rather than just "Swiss Cottage Market".
We already have a website we like. Can you just do the SEO?
No. SEO is not sold on its own any more — it is only available as part of Website + SEO, £349.99 a month in total, and that means building you a new PrimeStart website rather than adding search work onto the one you have now. A business on Finchley Road or around the market would be starting from the same place as everyone else here: a new site built around the trade, with the SEO work running from day one rather than retrofitted onto what already exists. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
What does a Swiss Cottage business website cost?
Website is £49.99 a month with a £0 upfront design fee, the same on Finchley Road as anywhere else. The first £49.99 is taken at signup, and there is an 18-month minimum term, £899.82 in total. Once that term is complete, the website is yours.
How does ongoing SEO work?
Website + SEO is £349.99 a month total, with the website included rather than charged on top. Each month we work on three agreed local searches, for example "shop Finchley Road" or "cafe Swiss Cottage station", alongside your Google Business Profile and the website itself. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
