Web design for the studios and workshops of Fish Island
A gas company named your street after a freshwater fish in 1865, and nothing outside the warehouse door says what actually happens behind it.

Illustration: Fish Island marked on a map of Greater London, beside a listing card for a local business whose website PrimeStart looks after.
In 1865 the Gas Light and Coke Company built a factory town of small houses and multi-storey factories here, naming the roads after freshwater fish - Dace, Bream and Roach - on ground residents already called 'the Island'. By the 1800s it was London's largest waterside industrial area, carrying gasworks, wallpaper works, ironworks and plants processing crude oil and coal tar. Fish Island is wholly in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, separated from Bow to the west by the A12 and running north to the Hertford Union Canal along the northern edge, at the boundary with Hackney - and its everyday similarity, next door, to Hackney Wick, in a different borough, is a fact about the map rather than an argument this page needs to make. It's one of fifty-eight conservation areas in Tower Hamlets, with no listed building inside it, and during the 1990s artists converted its dilapidated warehouses into the studios and lofts that much of it still is. We design, build, host and manage a professional WordPress website for £49.99 a month for the makers and small production businesses working behind those doors, and we can work on your Google visibility once it is live.

On Dace Road or Roach Road, the search has to do what the warehouse door won't.
"Workshop space fish island", "artist studio dace road", "photography studio near me": every one of these is typed by someone who can't tell what's inside a building from the outside. Ongoing SEO is monthly work on three agreed searches like these.
- 01“workshop space Fish Island”
Typed by someone who knows the reputation but has no way of telling a Dace Road warehouse door from a Roach Road one without a site that names the actual street.
- 02“artist studio Dace Road”
Searched by someone who already has the fish-named street and wants confirmation of the building and a way to arrange a visit before turning up.
- 03“photography studio near me”
Made by a customer standing on the Hertford Union Canal towpath who cannot tell a working studio from a storage unit without the website doing it for them.
Examples only. The three searches are agreed with you around the work you want more of and what people here actually type. Nobody can promise a position, and we don't.

Two ways to start on Fish Island.
A professional website, or that website with ongoing SEO from the start. Both start from the same problem: warehouse doors that say nothing about what's behind them.

Fish Island
Dace Road, Bream Street and Roach Road: a gas company's factory town, still named for its fish.
The Gas Light and Coke Company built Fish Island as a factory town in 1865, giving its roads the names of freshwater fish - Dace, Bream and Roach - on ground already known locally as 'the Island'. It went on to become London's largest waterside industrial area, carrying gasworks, wallpaper works, ironworks and plants processing crude oil and coal tar, before artists converted its dilapidated warehouses into studios and lofts during the 1990s.
It's one of fifty-eight conservation areas across Tower Hamlets, and its own record is plain that none of its buildings is individually listed - what's protected is the industrial fabric as a whole, not any single address. The Britannia Works building on that fabric, a former wallpaper works from 1853, is one of the fixed points on this ground, alongside the Hertford Union Canal running along the northern edge, at the boundary with Hackney. Fish Island is entirely in Tower Hamlets; the ground on the far side of that canal is a different borough, and that's a fact about the map rather than the argument this page needs to make.
For a maker or small production business behind a door on Dace Road, Bream Street or Roach Road, the conservation area's real character - nothing visible from the street, nothing to signal what's inside - is the exact problem a website has to solve. Real photographs of the workshop, the road name spelled out, and a clear way to arrange a visit are the only frontage this ground allows.
- Dace Road
- Bream Street
- Roach Road
- near the Britannia Works building
- along the Hertford Union Canal
If your studio or workshop is on Dace Road, Bream Street or Roach Road, the site names the street directly, since nothing about the building itself gives that away.
Fish Island industries
The building gives nothing away. The website has to.
A photographer on Dace Road and a joiner on Roach Road both work behind doors that look the same from the outside, and both need a site that says exactly what's inside.
