Fortis Green

A road, a boundary and a conservation area, but no centre to trade from in N2 or N10.

Fortis Green sits in the extreme north-western corner of Haringey and is also the name of the road that carries the A504 between Muswell Hill and East Finchley. It was designated a conservation area on 1 March 1974, protecting the late-Victorian, Edwardian and Arts and Crafts terraces that line it, and Haringey's own evidence base lists Fortis Green among the areas without a current adopted character appraisal, which is another way of saying this has always been a quieter, more residential designation than its neighbours. There is no parade of shops and no designated centre. A handful of pubs and scattered units sit along the road, and everyone else walks east to Muswell Hill Broadway or west to East Finchley High Road when they need a proper shopping street. Cherry Tree Wood sits at the East Finchley end of the road, and Coldfall Wood lies just to the north, so the green space either side of the houses is real even though the shopping street isn't.

The second fact that shapes everything here is the boundary itself. The Haringey/Barnet line runs down the middle of the road, so addresses on the Haringey side fall in the Muswell Hill ward, while houses a few doors along, closer to the East Finchley tube station end, answer to a different council entirely for planning, waste and parking. A skip permit, a parking suspension or a query about what a conservation area allows can have two different answers on the same street depending on which side of the tarmac you're standing on. That single fact makes "local" a genuinely more complicated word in N2 and N10 here than in most of the places this page could otherwise sit next to.

What actually trades on Fortis Green, almost without exception, is home-based: consultants, therapists, tutors, designers and household-services trades working from converted rooms and out of vans, serving the streets around them in both N2 and N10 rather than a passing crowd. None of them has a shopfront for a customer to walk past, and a customer here isn't going to find one by looking. What they find instead is whichever site answers, plainly, which streets you cover, which council's rules you actually understand, and how a neighbour two doors down can check you're real before letting you into their house. We build that site, host it, keep it secure and updated for one monthly price, and if you want ongoing work on how you're found across both boroughs, that's the second plan rather than a second supplier.

Where our Fortis Green customers work
  • Fortis Green (the road)
  • the Fortis Green Conservation Area
  • the Haringey/Barnet boundary
  • Cherry Tree Wood
  • Coldfall Wood
  • the streets toward Muswell Hill Broadway
  • the streets toward East Finchley

If you work the road and the side streets on both sides of the boundary, the site says that. If you cover a wider radius across N2 and N10, it says that instead.

Two ways to start on a road with no centre.

A professional website, or that website with ongoing SEO from the start. Fortis Green has no shopfront for any of the three to compete with, so the site does the whole introduction.

N2 and N10 searches carry a service and a postcode, split across two boroughs.

"Tutor N2", "gardener fortis green", "business consultant N10": with no parade and a boundary down the middle of the road, people search by service and postcode rather than by a shop name they've walked past, and some of them will be in Barnet's half of the search while you're listed in Haringey's. Ongoing SEO is monthly work on three agreed searches like these, so more of those customers get the chance to find you.

An illustration of the kind of local results SEO works towards. The businesses, ratings and positions shown are examples, not a ranking or a result for any particular business.

  1. 01
    “therapist N10

Chosen for a working relationship rather than a one-off visit in N10, usually after reading a proper bio and qualifications rather than walking past a door that doesn't exist on this road.

  2. 02
    “gardener fortis green

The Victorian and Arts and Crafts houses either side of the road, N2 as much as N10, tend to come with real gardens, and the person searching wants to see actual completed work and know whether you'll cross the boundary into the other borough without a fuss.

  3. 03
    “business consultant N2

A home-working professional in N2 searching for another home-working professional, deciding on clarity of service and how quickly a query gets answered, since neither party has an office to visit.

Examples only. The three searches are agreed with you around the work you want more of and what people on both sides of this road actually type. Nobody can promise a position, and we don't.

Fortis Green industries

The trade decides the shape of the site. The boundary decides how it talks about area.

A therapist working from a converted room in N10 and a gardener crossing between N2 and N10's worth of back gardens need different websites, but both need to say clearly which streets and which council's rules they actually cover.

Questions

Questions from Fortis Green businesses

Do you work with businesses on Fortis Green?
Yes, the road itself and the streets either side of it in both Haringey and Barnet, plus businesses based here that travel out to customers across N2 and N10. Everything is designed, built and managed remotely, so there is no office to visit and no travel to arrange.
Isn't Fortis Green Road the one with the shops in Muswell Hill?
That's a different place, and it's worth being precise about, because the two names are easy to confuse. Fortis Green Road, with its shops, belongs to Muswell Hill. Fortis Green itself is the residential road running between Muswell Hill and East Finchley, on the Haringey/Barnet boundary, and it has no shopping parade of its own. This page is about that road, not the Muswell Hill one.
The council changes partway down the road. Does that actually matter for a website?
It matters more here than almost anywhere else in Haringey, because the Haringey/Barnet boundary runs down the middle of Fortis Green itself, and addresses a few doors apart can fall under different planning, parking and waste rules. A site that states plainly which side of the line you work, or that you cover both, saves a customer the confusion and shows you actually understand the ground you work on.
We already have a website we like. Can you just do the SEO?
No. SEO is not sold on its own any more — it is only available as part of Website + SEO, £349.99 a month in total, and that means building you a new PrimeStart website rather than adding search work onto the one you have now. For a home-based practice here that already has a site and simply isn't being found across N2 and N10, that's exactly what Website + SEO is built for. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
What does a Fortis Green business website cost?
Website is £49.99 a month with a £0 upfront design fee, and it costs the same here as anywhere else. The first £49.99 is taken at signup, and there's an 18-month minimum term, £899.82 in total. Once that term is complete, the website is yours.
How does ongoing SEO work across two boroughs?
Website + SEO is £349.99 a month total, with the website included rather than charged on top. Each month we work on three agreed local searches, for example "gardener N2" and "therapist fortis green", chosen around the actual streets you cover on both sides of the boundary, alongside your Google Business Profile and the website itself. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
We work from home with no premises at all. Does that change the site?
It changes what the site has to prove. With no shopfront and no office anywhere on this N2/N10 road, the whole job of showing you're real, insured, qualified and worth letting into someone's home falls on the website: real photographs, plain area coverage across both boroughs, and a way to check you out before booking, rather than an address to walk past.
