Kingsland High Street carries Dalston's trade past the Rio Cinema, a Grade II listed independent built as the Kingsland Palace in 1909 and refurbished in Art Deco style after the arrival of sound, and into Gillett Square, built on a former car park after the council designated it a future town square in 1998, with ten market kiosks added in 1999 and the Dalston Culture House completed in 2005.
