Hoxton

Hoxton Street Market, Hoxton Hall and Hoxton Square: a street rebuilding its Saturday, not one at historic scale.

Hoxton Street Market was founded in 1687, originally west of Hoxton Square before it relocated onto Hoxton Street. It began losing trade from the 1980s, and revival efforts have run since 2013, with the market now trading on Saturdays. Hoxton Hall, at 130 Hoxton Street, opened in 1863 as a music hall, lost its performance licence in 1871 after police complaints, was bought in 1879 for temperance mission use, and survives largely in its original Grade II* listed form as a community arts venue on the same street. Around Hoxton Square, artists occupied industrial lofts through the 1980s and 1990s and the square became a focal point for galleries and creative industries, though the same sources record those galleries later moving on elsewhere as rents rose.

That leaves an honest picture rather than a booming one. The market that once ran through the week is now a Saturday event still being rebuilt, and the gallery concentration around the square is a history rather than a current fact, so a business here cannot assume either passing trade or a ready-made creative audience. What still stands is real: the market itself, Hoxton Hall on the same street, the Museum of the Home in its Grade I listed 1714 almshouses at 136 Kingsland Road, reopened in 2021 after an £18 million refurbishment directly opposite Hoxton station, and St John the Baptist church, established in 1826, at Hoxton Square.

The website's job is to be plain about all of it: which day you actually trade, which stretch of Hoxton Street or which side of the square you're on, and which of those landmarks you're closest to, so a customer with no habit of walking down this street yet has a reason to make the trip. We build that for £49.99 a month, hosted and kept secure, with ongoing SEO available if you want it.

If you trade on Hoxton Street itself, the site says so specifically. If you're nearer Hoxton Square or the museum, it says that instead.

Eighteen months, then the website is yours.

Hoxton Hall has stood on Hoxton Street since 1863. A website that only rents itself back to you monthly doesn't match that kind of permanence. Complete the minimum term here and it belongs to you, whether you stay with PrimeStart or not.

  1. Month 1 We design and build it

Your first £49.99 is taken at signup. We build the website around your business and you approve it before anything is published.

  2. Months 1 to 18 We host, manage and support it

Hosting, security, backups, updates and reasonable small changes, while you make the monthly payments. 18 payments of £49.99, £899.82 in total.

  3. After month 18 The website is yours

Complete the minimum term and the payments due under it, and the website belongs to you. It was built for your business, and it stays with your business.

  4. Your choice Stay, or move it

Stay with PrimeStart at £49.99 a month on a rolling basis with no new minimum term, or move the website to hosting of your own.

Moving the website elsewhere is subject to the third-party licences any website relies on, such as WordPress, plugins, fonts and stock photography. The full wording lives in the Website Subscription Terms.

Two ways to start on Hoxton Street.

A professional website, or that website with ongoing SEO from the start. Both start from the same problem: a market still rebuilding its Saturday trade.

A Hoxton search happens on the days the market isn't carrying the street.

"Shop hoxton street market", "cafe hoxton square", "hairdresser near me": with trade concentrated on Saturdays, most searches here happen on the other six days. Ongoing SEO is monthly work on three agreed searches like these.

  1. 01
    “shop Hoxton Street Market

Made on a weekday when the market itself isn't trading, by someone deciding whether Saturday is worth planning around.

  2. 02
    “cafe Hoxton Square

Searched by someone near the square who has no working assumption that a gallery scene still fills it, so the listing has to earn the visit on its own terms.

  3. 03
    “hairdresser near me

Typed by someone near Hoxton station or the museum with no fixed idea of what trades on Hoxton Street the rest of the week.

Examples only. The three searches are agreed with you around the work you want more of and what people here actually type. Nobody can promise a position, and we don't.

Hoxton industries

The trade decides the shape of the site. The market's slow revival decides who has to be brought in.

A Hoxton Street stall and a studio near Hoxton Square both trade on a street rebuilding its customers rather than one that already has them.

Questions from Hoxton businesses

Do you work with businesses on Hoxton Street and around the square?
Yes - Hoxton Street, Hoxton Square, and around Hoxton Hall, the Museum of the Home and Hoxton station. Everything is designed, built and managed remotely, so there is no office to visit.
Hoxton Street Market has traded since 1687. Does that matter for a website?
It changes what the website is for. The market lost trade from the 1980s and has been slowly reviving since 2013, so a business here can't assume the passing trade its history suggests. The site's job is to bring in customers who have no habit of walking down Hoxton Street yet, not to describe a market at full historic scale.
Is Hoxton still a gallery hub?
Not on the sourced evidence. Artists occupied lofts around Hoxton Square through the 1980s and 1990s, but the same sources record galleries later moving on elsewhere as rents rose. We write that honestly rather than claim a creative-agency identity Hoxton no longer holds.
We already have a website we like. Can you just do the SEO?
No. SEO is not sold on its own any more — it is only available as part of Website + SEO, £349.99 a month in total, and that means building you a new PrimeStart website rather than adding search work onto the one you have now. A business near Hoxton Street or Hoxton Square would be starting from the same place as everyone else here: a new site built around the trade, with the SEO work running from day one rather than retrofitted onto what already exists. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
What does a Hoxton business website cost?
Website is £49.99 a month with a £0 upfront design fee, and it costs the same in Hoxton as anywhere else. The first £49.99 is taken at signup, and there is an 18-month minimum term, £899.82 in total. Once that term is complete, the website is yours.
How does ongoing SEO work?
Website + SEO is £349.99 a month total, with the website included rather than charged on top. Each month we work on three agreed local searches, for example "shop hoxton street market" or "cafe hoxton square", alongside your Google Business Profile and the website itself. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
Is this the same as the Shoreditch page?
No. Shoreditch's page is for Shoreditch High Street, Boxpark and the Old Street junction. This page is written only for businesses on Hoxton Street, Hoxton Square and around the Museum of the Home.
