Kingsland was the dominant village on this ground before the railway - by 1724 it had five inns against Dalston's two - and Kingsland Road still follows the Roman line of Ermine Street through it. The 1865 station is what shifted the area's name towards Dalston, and the sources are direct: Kingsland is no longer discernible as a separate settlement, with its eastern portion absorbed into Queensbridge ward and the rest into the areas around it. What remains under the Kingsland name is the road itself, the Kingsland Shopping Centre, the Kingsland Conservation Area designated in 1998, and the site of Kingsland Green, long since built over. Kingsland
A Roman road, a 1998 conservation area and a shopping centre - the only things still carrying the Kingsland name.
Kingsland Road runs on the line of Ermine Street, the Roman road, and by 1724 the settlement here had five inns against two in Dalston. The 1865 railway station is what began to shift the area's name towards its neighbour, and the sources are plain about what happened next: Kingsland is no longer discernible as a separate settlement, its eastern part folded into Queensbridge ward and the rest absorbed into the ground around it.
