Web design in Selhurst

Selhurst is a dense, long-established inner-Croydon neighbourhood, best known outside it for the football ground at its northern edge. Web design here should say more than that.

Selhurst Park has been home to Crystal Palace Football Club since 1924, and it is the fact many people outside the area associate with the name — but most of Selhurst is dense, settled residential streets that grew up once the station opened in 1865, well away from the ground. A business here is usually searched for on those streets. We build a website that says so, for £99.99 a month with £0 upfront design fee, and we can work on your search visibility too.

Why a website

In Selhurst, most searches are for everyday local business, not the football ground. The website should be built for that.

A dense, long-established neighbourhood built up quickly once the station opened in 1865 means most people searching Selhurst are looking for a business on their own street, not planning a trip to the ground.

01

A customer checks it is genuinely local

Dense terraced streets mean several similar businesses are often close together, and a customer checks which is nearest before anything else.

02

They notice a generic template quickly

A site that could belong to any inner-London neighbourhood stands out for the wrong reasons in a settled area like this.

03

They want to see comparable, real work

Photographs of finished jobs on nearby streets do more to reassure than any paragraph of copy.

04

They want to enquire without a wasted first call

An enquiry form that reaches your phone catches the decision made after a quiet evening comparing a couple of local names.

Selhurst

A neighbourhood first named in 1225, built up quickly once its station opened in 1865.

Selhurst's name is recorded as early as 1225, from Old English for a dwelling in a wood, but the streets that make up most of the area today follow Selhurst railway station's opening in 1865. Croydon Council's own page for King George's Field, a small park inside Selhurst itself, records the Council acquiring the ground in 1937, a genuine part of the everyday neighbourhood alongside the better-known stadium.

Selhurst railway station opens

The arrival of the station is what really built Selhurst, triggering the terraced streets that still make up most of the neighbourhood.

The club had previously played at "the Nest", now the site of Selhurst Depot, and the ground has anchored the neighbourhood's northern edge ever since.

What it means for a business trading here today

Most of Selhurst is residential streets.

The station, not the football ground, is what actually built the neighbourhood, and most of it is settled terraced housing well away from Selhurst Park.

The ground is a real fact, not the whole story.

Selhurst Park and the BRIT School are genuinely part of the area, and a website can mention them honestly without making the whole page about either.

A dense area rewards a genuinely local site.

Several similar businesses close together mean a website that reads as authentically Selhurst, not generic inner Croydon, stands out.

Getting found locally

A Selhurst search is usually for an everyday local business, not the football ground.

"Hairdresser selhurst", "cafe selhurst road", "letting agent cr0" — each expects a genuine neighbourhood business, not anything to do with match days. Website + SEO is the ongoing work of making sure the right search finds you.

  • Local searches, agreed with you. We pick the three searches that matter most to your business — say, "hairdresser selhurst", "cafe selhurst road" and "letting agent cr0" — and work on them every month.
  • Google Business Profile. Set up and kept current so you appear on the map for Selhurst, with your hours, your work and a way to reach you.
  • Reviews from genuine customers. A simple way to ask satisfied customers for a Google review once a job completes — read closely against several other names on the same road.
  • A page that reads as genuinely Selhurst. Written and shown to say Selhurst specifically, not a generic inner-Croydon page reused with the name changed.
  • A monthly report you can read. A straightforward account each month of what changed and what's next, written the way you'd explain a job to a customer — in your Client Platform.

We never promise rankings or a number of customers. We do promise consistent, honest work on being found locally — and to show you exactly what we did.

Built for you

A generic template built for the whole borough misses what most people mean by Selhurst. Web design here has to know the streets, not just the stadium.

A hairdresser on Selhurst Road and a letting agent working its terraced streets both need a website that reads as genuinely local, not a page built around the ground next door. A template can't do that. We can.

Every PrimeStart website is designed from scratch and custom coded on WordPress in HTML and PHP — no page builders, no theme bought off a shelf with your name typed in. Built with the same care as the neighbourhood it represents.

“Selhurst is a real neighbourhood, not just a name outsiders attach to a football ground. The website should know the difference.”

Will the website mention Selhurst Park or Crystal Palace FC?
Only if it's genuinely relevant to your business. Selhurst Park is a real part of the area and a fact some searchers have in mind, so we're honest that it's there, but the page is built around your business on Selhurst's residential streets, not the football ground.
We work Selhurst as well as South Norwood and Addiscombe nearby. Can the site say that?
Yes, and it should if that's genuinely true — the site can name every area you cover clearly rather than leaving a customer to guess.
We already have a website we like. Can you just do the SEO?
No. SEO is not sold on its own any more — it is only available as part of Website + SEO, £349.99 a month in total, and that means building you a new PrimeStart website rather than adding search work onto the one you have now. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
How much does a website cost with PrimeStart?
Website is £99.99 a month for 12 months with no upfront design fee, or £899.91 paid upfront for the year (save 25%). Website + SEO is £349.99 a month in total, or £3,149.91 paid upfront for 12 months of Website and SEO. For new agreements, after the first 12 months the website continues automatically at £49.99 a month for hosting and aftercare, with no new minimum term, unless you give 30 days' notice; Website + SEO continues at £299.99 a month while SEO is still running. Existing customers keep the pricing in their own agreement.
Do I own the website?
Yes. On the monthly plan the site is yours after the agreed 12-month term, subject to the contract. If you pay upfront you can choose an early handover once the site is complete and approved, or keep it managed with us.
Do you also cover the rest of Croydon?
Yes — Addiscombe and every other part of Croydon has its own page, and the Croydon page covers the whole borough if that reads better for how you trade.
How long until my site is live?
Once we have your details and photos we design your site, show it to you, make your amendments and go live only when you've approved it. You'll see the first design before anything is public.
