Web design for bookkeepers

Most clients cannot tell you apart from an accountant.

They know they need someone to sort the receipts, they half think that is an accountant's job, and they have no idea a bookkeeper is usually cheaper and closer to their day-to-day. The most valuable thing your website can do is explain the difference and the fact that plenty of businesses have both. Do that clearly and you stop competing on price with the wrong profession. We build it that way, host it and look after it, with a £0 upfront website design fee.

  • Per month: £49.99
  • Upfront website design fee: £0

What you do

The work that happens every month, not once a year.

An accountant appears at year end. You are in the business every week, which is a genuinely different relationship and a genuinely different value. Saying so plainly is how a bookkeeper stops being seen as the cheap option and starts being seen as the useful one.

  1. 01

    Bank reconciliation

Every transaction matched and coded, every month, so the figures in the software are actually true.

    The monthly work
  2. 02

    Purchases and sales

Invoices in and out, receipts captured, and the chasing of the ones that never arrive.

    The monthly work
  3. 03

    Management figures

A short monthly summary the owner can actually read: what came in, what went out, what is owed.

    The monthly work
  4. 04

    VAT returns

Prepared and filed digitally, with the scheme and the deadlines explained rather than assumed.

    Returns and compliance
  5. 05

    Payroll

Employees paid, submissions made, and the auto-enrolment obligations dealt with.

    Returns and compliance
  6. 06

    Year-end handover

A clean, reconciled set of records handed to the accountant, which usually reduces their fee as well.

    Returns and compliance
  7. 07

    Credit control

Chasing unpaid invoices, politely and consistently. Frequently worth more to a small business than the entire bookkeeping fee.

    The things nobody asks for
  8. 08

    Cash flow visibility

Telling an owner what is actually coming in over the next month, which most of them are guessing at.

    The things nobody asks for
  9. 09

    Catch-up work

Eighteen months of unrecorded transactions brought up to date. Unglamorous, well paid, and constantly searched for.

    The things nobody asks for

Anything you do not take on comes off the site. If you do not do payroll or credit control, nobody enquires about them.

How you work together

Monthly, or a one-off catch-up.

These are two completely different customers with different urgency and different budgets, and they need separating. One is building a relationship; the other has a mess and a deadline.

Monthly bookkeeping

An ongoing arrangement

A fixed monthly fee, everything kept current, and a short set of figures each month. Suits any business past the point where the owner's evenings should not be spent on this.

  • Fixed monthly
  • Always current
  • Monthly figures
Catch-up and clean-up

A one-off project

Months or years behind, often with a deadline or an accountant asking questions. Priced as a project after a look at what is actually there.

  • Behind
  • Deadline
  • Priced after a look
Cover and overflow

Temporary help

Maternity cover, a bookkeeper who has left, or a busy quarter. Short-term, well paid and often turns into an ongoing arrangement.

  • Cover
  • Short term
  • Handover

Naming the catch-up work explicitly is worth doing. It is one of the most searched and least advertised services in the profession.

Credentials

You are being trusted with the bank feed.

A bookkeeper sees everything: the turnover, the drawings, the invoice that has not been paid, the payment that should not have been made. Qualifications, supervision and insurance are what make a business owner comfortable handing that over to somebody they found online.

We display exactly what you hold and nothing beyond it: no borrowed designations, no implied memberships, no invented experience.

Things we'll display if you hold them

  • Your professional body membership and any practising licence
  • Your anti-money-laundering supervision
  • Professional indemnity insurance, with the level carried
  • Software certifications for the packages you work in
  • Whether you are registered as an agent with the tax authority
  • How client data is handled and kept secure
  • Your engagement terms and how fees are agreed
  • Reviews wherever they already live, within your professional body's rules

Bookkeepers carrying out certain work are required to be supervised for anti-money-laundering purposes. You tell us your supervision and memberships during onboarding and we display exactly those.

Where clients come from

Accountants send more work than any advert ever will.

The most reliable source of bookkeeping clients is an accountant with a client whose records are a disaster. They want somebody dependable to hand it to, and they will look at your website before they make the introduction, because their own reputation is attached to it. That means the site has two audiences at once: the business owner, and the professional deciding whether to recommend you.

Local search does the rest, and it stays genuinely local even though the work is entirely digital. A business owner handing over their bank feed likes the idea that you are twenty minutes away, so naming your towns properly is worth more than describing a county. It also helps the accountants, who tend to refer to somebody in the same patch as their own clients.

Your site plan

Five pages, and one explains what you are not.

The bookkeeper-versus-accountant page is the highest-value thing on this site. It ends the confusion, positions you correctly and stops you being priced against the wrong profession.

The logic of SEO

Bookkeeping clients almost never leave.

Website + SEO is optional monthly work on how easily local customers find you, aimed at three searches agreed with you. Churn in this profession is very low, which means a client won this year is still paying in five, and makes local visibility unusually worthwhile.

The kind of searches SEO works on

  1. bookkeeper Shrewsbury
  2. bookkeeping services Shrewsbury
  3. catch up bookkeeping Shrewsbury

£349.99/month total, website included. SEO never promises a position, a number of enquiries or a revenue figure. It promises the work, every month.

Already have a website you are happy with? Ongoing SEO is only available with the managed website, as Website + SEO — PrimeStart does not run SEO on a site it does not host. If you would rather keep your current site, talk to us first and we will tell you honestly whether moving it across is worth it.

  1. 1

A website that explains the difference

Most enquiries arrive confused about what a bookkeeper is. The site that clears it up gets the client and gets to set the price, rather than being compared to an accountant.

  2. 2

Found by the people already looking

SEO is monthly work on the local searches, your Google Business Profile and the listings that decide who appears when somebody near you types bookkeeper near me.

  3. 3

Catch-up work is the way in

Somebody who is eighteen months behind is desperate, pays project rates and very often stays on monthly afterwards. It is the single best-value search in the profession.

  4. 4

A site that produces a price

Transactions, employees, software and whether they are behind. Four questions and you can quote, which is far better than an enquiry saying "how much do you charge?"

We research your area first, recommend three that make commercial sense, explain why, and agree them with you before any work starts.

Your Client Platform

Change a package the week you change it.

Every PrimeStart customer gets their own Client Platform. It is where the project lives: the stage it has reached, what we are waiting on, the draft to look through, and the button that says you are happy with it.

  • Follow the build stage by stage, without emailing to ask
  • Send documents straight from your phone
  • Message PrimeStart directly, with the whole thread in one place
  • Preview the draft on a laptop and a phone, and mark up changes
  • Approve the website before anything goes live
  • Ask for changes afterwards, and order services when you need them
  • See your SEO report, tracked searches and recommendations each month (Website + SEO)

There is nothing technical to learn. One login to your Client Platform, and you never have to open WordPress.

The plans

The same bookkeeping website, with or without the monthly SEO work.

The Website is the whole thing: designed, built, hosted, managed and kept current, with your domain name included. Website + SEO adds monthly work on how easily local customers find it. Clear pricing. Straightforward terms. No surprises.

A bookkeeping website that explains what a bookkeeper is, prices the monthly work and names the catch-up jobs.

Designers usually charge for the build before the website exists. We absorb that cost and recover it through the monthly service, which is why the plan carries a minimum term, and why there is nothing to pay up front beyond the first month.

Complete the term and the website is yours: stay with us on a rolling basis with no new minimum, or move it to hosting of your own.

Want PrimeStart working on how customers find you? Website + SEO is £349.99 a month in total, with the same website included. The same managed website, plus monthly work on three agreed local searches, in a profession where clients almost never leave. How SEO works

How it works

Your part is one evening.

Choose a plan, send us your packages and your software, then tell us what to change on the draft. We do the rest.

  2. 2

A short onboarding in your Client Platform: your services and monthly packages, your software, your memberships and supervision, your areas, and where enquiries should land.

  3. 3

We check we have what we need. If a package or a credential needs a decision, we say exactly which, and get on with the rest.

  4. 4

    First draft

A working draft on a laptop and a phone: the packages, the difference page, and the pricing enquiry.

  5. 5

Timing, stated properly

We aim to have your first website draft ready within 5 working days once PrimeStart has everything needed and confirms your project is Ready to Build. Payment alone doesn’t start the clock; missing details, revisions or domain delays can extend it.

Before you approve

You review the draft and request reasonable in-scope changes. If there’s a genuine problem we can’t put right within scope after reasonable attempts, we can cancel the agreement and refund Website subscription payments made, subject to any disclosed non-recoverable third-party costs.

Questions bookkeepers ask us

How much does a website for a bookkeeper cost?
£49.99 a month. The upfront website design fee is £0 and your first £49.99 payment is taken at signup. The Website runs on an 18-month minimum term: 18 monthly payments of £49.99, or £899.82 in total. That covers the design and build, managed hosting, your domain name, SSL, security, backups, WordPress and plugin updates, enquiry forms, basic Google foundations, reasonable small changes subject to fair use, and your Client Platform.
What happens at the end of the 18 months?
The website is yours. Once the minimum term is complete and the payments due under it have been made, you can stay with PrimeStart at £49.99 a month on a rolling basis with no new minimum term, or move the website elsewhere and arrange your own hosting. Transfer is subject to the relevant third-party licences, which we explain at the time.
Is the domain name included?
Yes. Your domain name is included in the Website and managed by PrimeStart alongside the hosting and the SSL certificate. If you already own one, we work with the domain you have.
I work from home on my own. Will the site look small?
It will look like what you are, which in this profession is an advantage. Clients choosing a bookkeeper usually want one person who knows their business, not a firm where they are passed around. We write it in the first person and put your name and face on it, because that is the thing being bought.
Should I publish monthly prices?
Packages by size of business work very well: number of transactions, whether there is payroll, whether VAT is registered. It answers the enquiry that would otherwise be "how much do you charge?", and it lets people self-select into the right bracket before they contact you.
Can the site explain the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?
It absolutely should, and it is usually the best page on the site. Written honestly — including that many businesses need both and that you work alongside their accountant — it ends the confusion that otherwise costs you the enquiry or the fee.
How quickly will I see a first draft?
We aim to have your first website draft ready within 5 working days once PrimeStart has everything needed and confirms your project is Ready to Build. Payment and onboarding alone do not start that period. Nothing is published until you have reviewed and approved it.
What is SEO, and do I need it to start?
SEO is optional ongoing work on your visibility for three agreed local searches, at £349.99 a month in total with the Website included: the £49.99 is not charged on top. The SEO work has a 6-month minimum, and every month of it also counts towards the 18-month Website term. It suits bookkeeping because churn is so low that a client won repays for years. Nobody can promise a position on Google or a number of enquiries, and we do not.
