Websites for structural engineering practices

An architect's enquiry and a homeowner's first question about a wall need different front pages.

PrimeStart designs a website around your structural engineering practice, then hosts it, updates it and looks after it for you. Built to answer the architect commissioning calculations and the homeowner who has never worked with an engineer before — from £99.99 a month with £0 upfront design fee.

Why a website

A structural engineer is judged on proof that will hold up to building control.

Structural calculations are a professional document, not a finished room somebody can photograph. Nobody can see the work the way they can see a completed kitchen, so your website's proof of qualifications, chartered status and past projects matters more than for almost any other trade.

01

An architect wants a reliable technical partner

Project scale, technical capability and a realistic turnaround, stated plainly, is what tells an architect whether to bring you into a scheme. Chartered status with the Institution of Structural Engineers is checkable, and stating it saves the architect the search.

02

A builder needs calculations that will not hold up the job

A realistic answer on turnaround, and evidence you deliver calculations building control actually accepts, matters more than a long list of services.

03

A homeowner has never commissioned an engineer before

What structural calculations are and why building control needs them, explained in plain terms, is what turns a worried enquiry into an instructed job.

04

They want to send drawings, not describe a wall by phone

A quote request that asks for a postcode, the project type and a way to attach or describe drawings gets a straightforward job priced properly.

Getting customers

Someone planning a wall removal is searching for a structural engineer right now.

“Structural engineer near me”, “structural calculations for extension”, “load-bearing wall removal” — different searches, different buyers. Website + SEO is the ongoing work of being found for each one.

  • Local searches, agreed with you. We pick the three searches that matter most to your business — say, “structural engineer in Norwich”, “structural calculations for extension” and “load-bearing wall removal” — and work on them every month.
  • Google Business Profile. Set up and kept current, so you appear on the map with your services, your areas and a way to reach you.
  • Reviews from genuine clients. A simple way to ask happy clients for a Google review after a job, because reviews are what a first-time buyer checks before trusting an engineer with calculations for their home.
  • Content that answers real questions. What calculations building control needs, what a site visit involves, and how quickly work is turned around — the things people search for before they are ready to ask for a quote.
  • A monthly report you can read. What we did, what moved, and what's next — in your Client Platform, in clear, straightforward language.

We never promise rankings or a number of enquiries. We do promise consistent, honest work on being found — and to show you exactly what we did.

Built for you

An architect's enquiry and a homeowner's first question need different front pages on a structural engineer's website.

A practice bringing in architects and one taking on mostly homeowner extensions have different customers, different proof points and different ways of winning work. A template can't tell the difference. We can.

Every PrimeStart website is designed from scratch and custom coded on WordPress in HTML and PHP — no page builders, no theme bought off a shelf with your name typed in. It's built around chartered status, calculations and the buyers who actually commission you.

“An architect wants your technical capability. A homeowner wants a wall explained without jargon. Same practice, completely different website.”

  • 1

    Qualifications, where they get checked

IStructE or ICE membership and chartered status, if you hold them, set out where an architect or building control officer looks for them.

  • 2

Calculations explained for a first-time buyer

What building control needs and why, in terms a homeowner planning a loft conversion or wall removal can follow.

  • 3

A realistic answer, not a vague one

How quickly calculations are typically delivered, because a builder waiting on a job needs to plan around it.

  • 4

    A form built for drawings

Postcode, project type and a way to attach or describe drawings, so a quote can start without an unnecessary visit.

Questions

What structural engineering practices check before committing.

The commercial questions, answered plainly. Anything else, ask us — a real person will call you back.

Most of our work comes through architects we already know. Do we need a website?
A regular architect keeps the diary full until a practice changes its usual engineer or takes on a project you are not set up for. A website is what a new architect, a builder or a homeowner checks before they send drawings — and it works during the weeks a regular source of work goes quiet.
How much does a website for a structural engineering practice cost with PrimeStart?
Website is £99.99 a month for 12 months with no upfront design fee, or £899.91 paid upfront for the year (save 25%). Website + SEO is £349.99 a month in total, or £3,149.91 paid upfront for 12 months of Website and SEO. For new agreements, after the first 12 months the website continues automatically at £49.99 a month for hosting and aftercare, with no new minimum term, unless you give 30 days' notice; Website + SEO continues at £299.99 a month while SEO is still running. Existing customers keep the pricing in their own agreement.
Can the site speak to architects and homeowners differently?
Yes, by the route each one comes in on. A page for architects and builders sets out project scale, turnaround and technical capability, while a page for homeowners explains calculations in plain terms and asks for drawings. Both use the same enquiry form and reach your inbox.
Can we show our IStructE membership and chartered status?
Yes, whichever you hold. Chartered status, IStructE or ICE membership and your professional indemnity insurance are set out together, worded exactly as they appear on the certificate you send us — never a status you do not actually hold.
Will you get me to the top of Google?
Nobody can honestly promise that, and we don't. What Website + SEO gives you is consistent monthly work on the local searches that matter to your practice, a properly kept Google Business Profile, help gathering genuine reviews, and a clear report of what we did.
Do I own the website?
Yes. On the monthly plan the site is yours after the agreed 12-month term, subject to the contract. If you pay upfront you can choose an early handover once the site is complete and approved, or keep it managed with us.
How long until my site is live?
Once we have your details and qualifications we design your site, show it to you, make your amendments and go live only when you've approved it. You'll see the first design before anything is public.
We also work closely with architects on larger projects. Do you cover that side too?
Yes. If a good share of your work is alongside architects on the design and planning stage of a project, our website design for architects page is worth a look for how we handle that relationship.
