West Hendon

West Hendon was a settlement within the ancient parish of Hendon known as the Hyde, and carried the formal name New Hendon between 1878 and 1890 before reverting. The Brent Reservoir, built between 1835 and 1838 by damming the Brent and Silk brooks and popularly called the Welsh Harp after two public houses of that name, has shrunk from around 400 acres in 1853 to about 110 acres today, and its shoreline still forms one edge of the district. West Hendon Broadway, running along the A5, carries the area's everyday shops, and Hendon Mosque, established in 1984 and reopened at its present site in 1996, has served the community for decades.

The West Hendon Estate, built in the late 1960s with 680 homes, is being replaced under the Hendon Waterside regeneration approved in 2013. Hawfinch House, an 85-metre, 26-storey tower completed in July 2016, became the tallest building in the London Borough of Barnet - and the wider estate around it is still being rebuilt in phases, which means the ground a customer sees on a map today does not necessarily match what is actually finished and open by the time they arrive.

That matters directly for a website. A business on West Hendon Broadway or around Hendon Waterside needs to state plainly which part of the area it is in and which phase of the development is actually open, because a static address alone cannot keep up with years of construction the way a website that is kept updated can.
