Web design for veterinary practices

Half the people on your website are frightened right now.

A dog that has eaten something, a cat that has not moved since yesterday, a rabbit that has stopped eating. They are searching at nine in the evening and they need one thing: are you open, and if not, who do they ring. Everything else on a veterinary website — the team, the services, the registration — matters enormously and matters second. We build it in that order, host it and look after it, with a £0 upfront website design fee.

  • Per month: £49.99
  • Upfront website design fee: £0

Emergencies

The most important information on the whole site.

Somebody in a genuine emergency should not have to navigate anything. Opening hours, the number to ring, and exactly who covers you out of hours belong in the first screen of every single page, and most veterinary websites bury all three.

  • Are you open right now?

Full opening hours for every day, including weekends and bank holidays, written where a frightened person will see them without scrolling.

  • Who covers out of hours

Whether you provide it yourself or through a dedicated provider, the number, the address and whether it is a different building. This is the single most searched-for piece of veterinary information there is.

  • What to do right now

Ring first rather than arrive unannounced, keep the animal warm and quiet, bring any packaging if something has been eaten. Practical, calm and genuinely useful.

  • What counts as an emergency

Written carefully and generally, encouraging somebody to ring if in doubt rather than trying to triage themselves from a web page.

  • What it is likely to cost

An out-of-hours consultation costs considerably more, and people are shocked by it at the worst possible moment. Saying so in advance is kinder and reduces complaints.

On wording

We write emergency information factually from what you supply and never attempt to advise an owner on whether an animal needs to be seen. Every page carries your emergency contact route.

Two kinds of visit

The emergency and the annual booster are opposite experiences.

One owner is panicking and needs three facts. The other is comparing practices, thinking about a health plan and reading everything. A site that serves only one of them loses a lot of registrations.

Now
Something is wrong

A sudden illness, an injury, something swallowed. They may not be registered with you at all, and they are deciding in under a minute.

  • Opening hours and the number, on every page
  • Out-of-hours arrangements named clearly
  • Whether you see unregistered animals in an emergency
  • Where to park, and which door
Planned
Registering and routine care

A new puppy, a house move, or somebody unhappy with their current practice. They will read the whole site, compare fees and care a great deal about continuity of vet.

  • Consultation and vaccination fees, published
  • Health plans and what they include
  • Whether they will see the same vet
  • How to register, and how long it takes

Both routes live on the site at once: the emergency information never moves, and the registration journey gets the space to answer a careful reader properly.

Your services

Fees published, because the sector is being asked to.

Pet owners have become far more price-aware, and transparency about consultation fees, common procedures and what a health plan actually covers is now expected rather than optional. Practices that publish read as confident; those that do not increasingly read as evasive.

    Consultations

The standard fee, the length, and what an extended appointment costs. The number everybody wants and almost nobody publishes.

  2. 02

    Vaccinations and preventative care

What each vaccination costs, what is included in a health plan, and honestly whether the plan saves money for a given animal.

  3. 03

    Neutering and routine surgery

Priced by size and species where you can, with what the price includes: pre-anaesthetic checks, pain relief, follow-ups.

  4. 04

    Dentistry

Increasingly common, poorly understood and often a shock. Explaining why a dental needs an anaesthetic and what the cost depends on prevents a difficult conversation.

  5. 05

    Diagnostics and referrals

What you can do in-house, what goes to a laboratory, and when you would refer to a specialist centre.

  6. 06

    End of life care

Written with real care. Owners look for this in advance more often than practices realise, and finding it handled gently matters enormously.

All fees and clinical descriptions come from you and are approved before publication. We describe services and what they involve; we do not give veterinary advice, recommend treatments or make claims about outcomes.

Regulation

Registration, and who actually owns the practice.

Veterinary surgeon is a protected title and practices are subject to professional regulation. Owners are also increasingly interested in whether a practice is independent or part of a group, and independents in particular should say so, because a great many people are actively looking for one.

We display exactly what your practice and your team hold and nothing beyond it. We never imply accreditation, overstate a scheme membership, or publish a client's or animal's details without permission.

Things we'll display if they apply to you

  • Your veterinary surgeons and nurses, with their registration and qualifications
  • Your practice standards scheme accreditation and the level held
  • Whether the practice is independently owned
  • Your out-of-hours provider and the arrangements in place
  • Professional indemnity arrangements
  • Your complaints procedure
  • Which pet insurers you work with, and whether direct claims are possible
  • Reviews handled within the standards that apply to your profession

Veterinary surgeon and veterinary nurse are protected titles governed by the profession's regulator, and practice accreditation schemes have rules about how membership may be displayed. You tell us exactly what is held, and we present precisely that.

Where clients come from

Independence has become a reason people choose you.

Consolidation in the veterinary sector has been widely reported, and a growing number of owners now specifically look for an independent practice, believing they will get more continuity and clearer pricing. If you are independent, saying so plainly is one of the strongest differentiators available to you, and it costs nothing.

The rest is geography and continuity. People register with a practice they can reach quickly when something is wrong, and they stay for years — often for the whole life of several animals — provided they see the same faces. Naming the villages you serve, and being honest about how you try to keep clients with the same vet, does more for registrations than any amount of general reassurance.

Your site plan

Five pages, and the emergency details are on all of them.

Hours and the out-of-hours number are not a page, they are a fixture. Everything else is organised for the owner who is calmly deciding where to register.

More about the Client Platform

SEO

One registration is a decade of care.

Website + SEO is optional monthly work on how easily local customers find you, aimed at three searches agreed with you. A registered client stays for the life of an animal and usually the next one, which makes each new registration worth a great deal.

  • £349.99/monthTotal. The website is included: the £49.99 Website is not added on top.
  • 3 searchesAgreed with you at the start. Additional agreed search targets are £50/month each.
  • Monthly workSearch and competitor research, website improvements, Google Business Profile work, local listings, technical monitoring and a clear monthly report in your Client Platform.
  • 6-month minimumAfter the SEO minimum you can continue, or stop the SEO work and keep the Website for the rest of its 18-month term. Every month of it counts towards both.
What we don’t promise

This is an illustration of a results page, not a promise of a position. Nobody can guarantee where a website appears on Google, and we do not.

Three example searches

  1. vet Shrewsbury
  2. emergency vet Shrewsbury
  3. vets near me Shrewsbury

"Emergency vet" and "vet open now" are the highest-intent searches in the sector, and being accurate about hours in your Business Profile matters as much as the website itself. We research your area first, recommend three that make commercial sense, explain why, and agree them with you before any work starts. Additional agreed searches are +£50 a month each.

Already have a website you are happy with? Ongoing SEO is only available with the managed website, as Website + SEO — PrimeStart does not run SEO on a site it does not host. If you would rather keep your current site, talk to us first and we will tell you honestly whether moving it across is worth it.

The plans

The same veterinary website, with or without the monthly SEO work.

The Website is the whole thing: designed, built, hosted, managed and kept current, with your domain name included. Website + SEO adds monthly work on how easily local customers find it. Clear pricing. Straightforward terms. No surprises.

A veterinary website that puts hours and out-of-hours first, publishes fees, and makes registering straightforward.

Designers usually charge for the build before the website exists. We absorb that cost and recover it through the monthly service, which is why the plan carries a minimum term, and why there is nothing to pay up front beyond the first month.

Complete the term and the website is yours: stay with us on a rolling basis with no new minimum, or move it to hosting of your own.

How it works

Your part is one meeting and a fee schedule.

Choose a plan, send us your hours, fees and team, then tell us what to change on the draft. We do the rest.

See the full process, start to finish

  1. 1

    Choose your plan

Website, or Website + SEO. The upfront website design fee is £0 and your first monthly payment is taken at signup.

  2. 2

    Send us the practice details

A short onboarding in your Client Platform: your hours and out-of-hours arrangements, your fees, your team and their registrations, your accreditations, and where enquiries should land.

  3. 3

    Ready to Build

We check we have what we need. If a fee or a clinical description needs a decision, we say exactly which, and get on with the rest.

  4. 4

    First draft

A working draft on a laptop and a phone, for your clinical team to review before anything is published.

  5. 5

    Approve and launch

Reasonable in-scope changes, then you approve it. Nothing is published until you say so.

Timing, stated properly

We aim to have your first website draft ready within 5 working days once PrimeStart has everything needed and confirms your project is Ready to Build. Payment alone doesn’t start the clock; missing details, revisions or domain delays can extend it.

Before you approve

You review the draft and request reasonable in-scope changes. If there’s a genuine problem we can’t put right within scope after reasonable attempts, we can cancel the agreement and refund Website subscription payments made, subject to any disclosed non-recoverable third-party costs.

Questions veterinary practices ask us

How much does a website for a veterinary practice cost?
£49.99 a month. The upfront website design fee is £0 and your first £49.99 payment is taken at signup. The Website runs on an 18-month minimum term: 18 monthly payments of £49.99, or £899.82 in total. That covers the design and build, managed hosting, your domain name, SSL, security, backups, WordPress and plugin updates, enquiry forms, basic Google foundations, reasonable small changes subject to fair use, and your Client Platform.
What happens at the end of the 18 months?
The website is yours. Once the minimum term is complete and the payments due under it have been made, you can stay with PrimeStart at £49.99 a month on a rolling basis with no new minimum term, or move the website elsewhere and arrange your own hosting. Transfer is subject to the relevant third-party licences, which we explain at the time.
Is the domain name included?
Yes. Your domain name is included in the Website and managed by PrimeStart alongside the hosting and the SSL certificate. If you already own one, we work with the domain you have.
Should we publish our fees?
We would strongly encourage it, and the direction of travel in the sector is towards more transparency rather than less. Consultation fees, common vaccinations and routine procedures priced by size are the ones owners look for. Publishing them attracts clients who have accepted your pricing and reduces complaints considerably.
Can pet owners book appointments online?
PrimeStart sites do not include a booking engine or connect to practice management software, so bookings stay in your own system. We link straight to whatever you use, and the site takes registration enquiries. For emergencies we always direct people to ring rather than to fill in a form.
Can the site give advice about symptoms?
No, and we would decline to write it. Encouraging an owner to self-assess from a web page is not in the animal's interest. What the site does instead is explain what to do if worried, make ringing easy, and describe the services you provide factually.
How quickly will I see a first draft?
We aim to have your first website draft ready within 5 working days once PrimeStart has everything needed and confirms your project is Ready to Build. Payment and onboarding alone do not start that period. Nothing is published until you have reviewed and approved it, and clinical review usually adds time, which is expected.
What is SEO, and do I need it to start?
SEO is optional ongoing work on your visibility for three agreed local searches, at £349.99 a month in total with the Website included: the £49.99 is not charged on top. The SEO work has a 6-month minimum, and every month of it also counts towards the 18-month Website term. Accurate opening hours in your Business Profile matter as much as the searches here. Nobody can promise a position on Google or a number of registrations, and we do not.
