A search for 'the market' near Old Spitalfields has three right answers, not one.

'Vintage market spitalfields', 'market petticoat lane', 'shop near me': each of these can mean a different market on a different day. Ongoing SEO is monthly work on three agreed searches like these.

An illustration of the kind of local results SEO works towards. The businesses, ratings and positions shown are examples, not a ranking or a result for any particular business.

  1. 01
    “vintage market Spitalfields

Typed by someone who wants Old Spitalfields Market's Thursday vintage stalls specifically, not the general market on any other day.

  2. 02
    “market Petticoat Lane

Searched by someone deciding between Wentworth Street, open six days, and Middlesex Street, open Sundays only until about two under the Petticoat Lane name - the wrong guess means a wasted trip.

  3. 03
    “shop near me

A near-me search from someone already standing among the Old Truman Brewery's more than 250 businesses, on a site where brewing stopped in 1989, choosing on the spot rather than walking further.

Examples only. The three searches are agreed with you around the work you want more of and what people around Spitalfields actually type. Nobody can promise a position, and we don't.

Two ways to start around Spitalfields' three markets.

A professional website, or that website with ongoing SEO from the start. Both start from the same problem: which market, which day.

Spitalfields

Old Spitalfields, Petticoat Lane and the Old Truman Brewery: three markets under one name.

Old Spitalfields Market began with a licence Charles I granted in 1638 for flesh, fowl and roots to be sold on Spittle Fields. The buildings standing today, the Grade II listed Horner Buildings, went up between 1885 and 1893; the wholesale fruit and vegetable trade moved out to Leyton in 1991, and what's there now trades seven days a week, with a vintage market on Thursdays and a vinyl fair on some Fridays.

Petticoat Lane Market is a different schedule again, split across two streets: Wentworth Street trades six days a week, while Middlesex Street - renamed from Petticoat Lane around 1830 to mark the boundary with the City of London - opens on Sundays only and closes by about two o'clock. The Old Truman Brewery, brewing since 1666 and once the largest brewery in the world before it closed in 1989, now holds more than 250 businesses across eleven acres. Christ Church Spitalfields, the Huguenot houses on Fournier, Wilkes and Princelet Streets, and the Jamme Masjid at the Fournier Street corner - a building that has been a Huguenot chapel, a Methodist chapel and a synagogue before it became a mosque in 1976 - sit around them.

'Meet me at the market' is genuinely ambiguous here, and it fails on exactly the wrong day: Old Spitalfields is open when Middlesex Street is shut, and Wentworth Street runs six days out of the market's seven. A website that names the actual market, the actual street and the days it trades removes that guess before a customer sets off.

Spitalfields industries

Three markets, three trading patterns, one website that has to cover all of them.

A Thursday vintage stall, a Sunday-only stallholder on Middlesex Street and a studio in the old brewery all call this 'Spitalfields', and each needs the site to say which one it is.

Eighteen months, then the website is yours.

Old Spitalfields Market has traded under one licence or another since 1638. A website built to last the minimum term is modest by comparison, and once it's complete, it belongs to you outright.

  1. Month 1 We design and build it

Your first £49.99 is taken at signup. We build the website around your business and you approve it before anything is published.

  2. Months 1 to 18 We host, manage and support it

Hosting, security, backups, updates and reasonable small changes, while you make the monthly payments. 18 payments of £49.99, £899.82 in total.

  3. After month 18 The website is yours

Complete the minimum term and the payments due under it, and the website belongs to you. It was built for your business, and it stays with your business.

  4. Your choice Stay, or move it

Stay with PrimeStart at £49.99 a month on a rolling basis with no new minimum term, or move the website to hosting of your own.

Moving the website elsewhere is subject to the third-party licences any website relies on, such as WordPress, plugins, fonts and stock photography. The full wording lives in the Website Subscription Terms.

Questions from Spitalfields businesses

Do you work with businesses in Spitalfields?
Yes - Old Spitalfields Market, Petticoat Lane Market on both Wentworth Street and Middlesex Street, and the Old Truman Brewery. Everything is designed, built and managed remotely, so there's no office to visit.
Why does it matter which market I say I'm in?
Because 'the market' in Spitalfields genuinely means three different places on three different schedules - Old Spitalfields seven days a week, Wentworth Street six, Middlesex Street Sundays only until about two. A site that just says 'the market' leaves a customer to guess which one, and on which day it's actually open.
We're on Brick Lane, not one of the three markets. Is that the same page?
No, and we don't currently build a page for it - Brick Lane runs through three different areas and doesn't sit inside one page's ground. If you trade in Old Spitalfields Market, on Petticoat Lane, or in the Old Truman Brewery, this page is the right one.
We already have a website we like. Can you just do the SEO?
No. SEO is not sold on its own any more — it is only available as part of Website + SEO, £349.99 a month in total, and that means building you a new PrimeStart website rather than adding search work onto the one you have now. A business around Old Spitalfields Market or Petticoat Lane would be starting from the same place as everyone else here: a new site built around the trade, with the SEO work running from day one rather than retrofitted onto what already exists. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
What does a Spitalfields business website cost?
Website is £49.99 a month with a £0 upfront design fee, and it costs the same around Old Spitalfields Market as anywhere else in Tower Hamlets. The first £49.99 is taken at signup, and there's an 18-month minimum term, £899.82 in total. Once that term is complete, the website is yours.
How does ongoing SEO work?
Website + SEO is £349.99 a month total, with the website included rather than charged on top. Each month we work on three agreed local searches, for example 'vintage market spitalfields' or 'market petticoat lane', alongside your Google Business Profile and the website itself. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
Is there a PrimeStart office near the markets?
No. We have no premises in Spitalfields or anywhere in Tower Hamlets. Design, build, hosting and support are all handled remotely.
