Web design for builders

Homeowners shortlist builders before they ever call one.

Someone with drawings, planning approval and money set aside asks around, gets three names, then looks all three up the same evening. What they find decides who gets invited to walk the site. PrimeStart builds websites for builders around finished projects, the work you take on and a quote request that asks the right questions, then hosts it, manages it and keeps it current.

  • Per month: £49.99
  • Upfront website design fee: £0

A builder's website starts with the work you've finished.

A homeowner wants to see the extension, not read about extensions: a job like theirs, in a town they recognise, described by someone who clearly did it. Every project gets a photograph, the town and three honest lines, so the page reads like a portfolio rather than a list of trades.

Illustrative projects. Your page carries your own jobs, your own towns and your own photographs, in as much or as little detail as you want to give.

Nobody searches for a general building contractor.

They search for an extension builder, a loft conversion, someone to take a wall out. Your pages have to use the words people actually type and say. During onboarding you tell us what you take on and, just as usefully, what you don't, and we write each one clearly, including what your own team does and what you bring in.

    Outside & new build

If you don't do it, it never appears. A website promising new builds when you build extensions only brings the wrong phone calls.

A quote form that does half the site visit for you.

Most builders' contact forms ask for a name and a message, which tells you nothing. Yours asks what you would ask on the phone: what the project is, whether drawings exist, where planning has got to, the postcode and when they want to start.

  1. 1
The detail arrives with the enquiry

Project type, drawings, planning status, postcode and timing land in your inbox together. You know within a minute whether it is your kind of job.

  2. 2
You answer with a real next step

A site visit for the extension, a phone call for the small job, a polite no for the one three counties away. Your evenings go on the enquiries worth having.

  3. 3
The homeowner already feels looked after

A form that asks sensible questions tells someone you have done this many times before. That impression starts before you have met.

Prefer the phone? Your number sits at the top of every page and in the footer. The form is there for the homeowner comparing builders at eleven o'clock at night.

Three quotes, three websites, one evening.

Most building work is bought the same way. Someone gets a recommendation, finds two more names and looks up all three that evening. By the time you ring back they have already formed a view of you from a phone screen: how the work looks, whether you do jobs like theirs, whether you read as a business or a mobile number.

That is the entire job of a builder's website. Not to explain what an extension is, but to make a homeowner comfortable enough to put you on the list and let you into the house. Finished projects in towns they know. The work you genuinely take on. Insurance and memberships where they can see them.

Where you work counts as much as what you build. Your pages name the towns you actually cover, so the enquiries that arrive are ones you can reach on a wet Tuesday morning.

Nobody's first worry is your brickwork.

It is whether the job gets finished. Building work is one of the few things a household buys where a large sum changes hands and then the roof comes off. Membership, insurance and a written contract answer that fear faster than any slogan, so yours go where people look: the home page, the how-we-work page and beside the quote request.

We display what you actually hold and nothing else. No borrowed logos, no invented review counts, and no year you started trading unless you have given it to us.

Five pages, in the order a building project is bought.

Projects first, because that is the evidence. Then the work you take on, then how you run a job, then the quote request. Nothing padded out to look bigger than it is.

The logic of SEO

Being findable matters more when the jobs are big.

A builder does not need hundreds of enquiries. A handful of the right ones, the extension with drawings already approved and the loft in the next street, fills a year. SEO is PrimeStart working every month on how easily those people find you.

The kind of searches SEO works on

  1. extension builders Guildford
  2. loft conversion Guildford
  3. house renovation Guildford

£349.99/month total, website included. SEO never promises a position, a number of enquiries or a revenue figure. It promises the work, every month.

Already have a website you are happy with? Ongoing SEO is only available with the managed website, as Website + SEO — PrimeStart does not run SEO on a site it does not host. If you would rather keep your current site, talk to us first and we will tell you honestly whether moving it across is worth it.

  1. 1

A better website earns the first call

Homeowners judge a builder on the website before they judge the brickwork. A site built around finished projects and clear scope gets you onto the shortlist.

  2. 2

Better visibility where the work is

SEO works every month on the searches that matter in your towns, on your Google Business Profile and on the listings that carry your details.

  3. 3

    More of the right enquiries

Being found by someone already searching for an extension builder near them brings the projects you want, rather than the fence panel and the dripping tap.

  4. 4

A site that turns them into site visits

Clear work, clear areas, credentials in view and a quote request that asks the right questions, so the enquiry arrives ready to price.

Your Client Platform

Updates without chasing. You know how rare that is.

Every PrimeStart customer gets their own Client Platform. You can see which stage your website is at, send photographs of a job you have just finished, ask for a change and approve the site before anything goes live. Nothing technical, and nothing to install.

  • Follow your website stage by stage, from onboarding to launch
  • Send project photographs, your logo and the details we need
  • Message PrimeStart directly instead of chasing an email thread
  • Preview the draft on a desktop and on a phone
  • Request changes, and see when they have been made
  • Approve the website before anything goes live
  • See your SEO report, tracked searches and recommendations each month (Website + SEO)

You never need a WordPress login, and you never have to learn one.

The price

Get the projects online first. Grow when the diary needs it.

Most builders start with the Website: the work online, the quote request doing its job, the technical side handled. Move to Website + SEO when you want PrimeStart working every month on how homeowners in your towns find you.

A builder's website with your projects, the work you take on and a quote request that asks the right questions.

Designers usually charge for the build before the website exists. We absorb that cost and recover it through the monthly service, which is why the plan carries a minimum term, and why there is nothing to pay up front beyond the first month.

Complete the term and the website is yours: stay with us on a rolling basis with no new minimum, or move it to hosting of your own.

Want PrimeStart working on how customers find you? Website + SEO is £349.99 a month in total, with the same website included. The same managed website, plus monthly work on how easily local homeowners find it. How SEO works

How it works

You're on site at seven. Your part takes an evening.

Choose a plan, send us your project photographs and a few facts about the business, then review the draft. We write the pages, build the site and handle everything technical in between.

See the full process, start to finish

  1. 1

    Choose your plan

Pick Website or Website + SEO. Your first monthly payment is taken at signup.

  2. 2

    Tell us about the business

A short onboarding in your Client Platform: services, areas, anything you want highlighted, your logo, any photos and the number you want calls to go to.

  3. 3

    Ready to Build

We check we have what we need. If something's missing we'll say exactly what, and work with what you have where we can.

  4. 4

    First draft

You see a working draft of your site, on desktop and phone, and tell us what to change.

  5. 5

    Approve and launch

Reasonable in-scope revisions, then you approve it. Nothing goes live until you say so.

Timing, stated properly

We aim to have your first website draft ready within 5 working days once PrimeStart has everything needed and confirms your project is Ready to Build. Payment alone doesn’t start the clock; missing details, revisions or domain delays can extend it.

Before you approve

You review the draft and request reasonable in-scope changes. If there’s a genuine problem we can’t put right within scope after reasonable attempts, we can cancel the agreement and refund Website subscription payments made, subject to any disclosed non-recoverable third-party costs.

Questions builders ask us

How much does a website for a builder cost?
£49.99 a month, with a £0 upfront website design fee. Your first £49.99 is taken at signup and the Website runs on an 18-month minimum term, so 18 × £49.99, which is £899.82, over that term. That covers the design and build, managed hosting, your domain name registered and managed, SSL, security, backups, WordPress and plugin updates, enquiry forms, basic Google foundations, support and reasonable small changes subject to fair use.
What happens at the end of the 18 months?
The website is yours. Once the minimum term is complete and the payments due under it have been made, you can stay with PrimeStart at £49.99 a month on a rolling basis with no new minimum term, or take the website elsewhere and arrange your own hosting. Transferring it is subject to the licences behind any third-party parts of the site, and we will tell you what those are.
How quickly will I see a first draft?
We aim to have your first draft ready within 5 working days once PrimeStart has everything needed and confirms your project is Ready to Build. Payment and onboarding on their own do not start that period, and if something is missing we will tell you exactly what. Building work runs to a programme, and so does this.
Who writes the words, and do I get to check them?
We write them. During onboarding you tell us what you build, where you work, how you run a job and which projects to feature, and we turn that into pages written in everyday language. You then preview the whole site in your Client Platform, on a desktop and on a phone, and ask for changes. Nothing is published until you have approved it.
Can my finished jobs be shown as projects, and are phone photographs good enough?
Yes, and usually yes. Each job gets photographs, the town it was in and a short description of what it involved, grouped by type so an extension enquiry sees extensions first. A finished extension photographed from across the garden on a bright morning persuades a homeowner far more than any stock picture, so phone photographs are normally fine. Send new projects as you finish them and we put them up as a small change under fair use.
Can you show my FMB membership and insurance?
If you hold them, yes. Federation of Master Builders membership, TrustMark registration, your public liability and employer's liability cover and any workmanship warranty you offer sit on the home page, the how-we-work page and beside the quote request. We show what you have told us you hold, and never a badge you have not given us.
Can the quote request ask about drawings and planning?
Yes. It asks what you would ask on the phone: project type, whether drawings exist, where planning has got to, the postcode, a rough start date and room to describe the job. It reaches your inbox as one clear message rather than a name and a sentence. If you would rather people rang, we make the number the main route on every page instead.
What is SEO, and do I need it to start?
SEO is optional ongoing work on how easily people find you, built around three priority Google searches agreed with you. It is £349.99 a month in total with the website included, so the £49.99 is not charged on top. The SEO work has a 6-month minimum, and every month of it also counts towards the 18-month Website term. You do not need it to start: plenty of builders take SEO on later, when they want more of a particular kind of project. Nobody can promise a position on Google, and we do not.
