The common that gave the area its name was recorded as Pesthouse Common in 1720 and Brumley Common in 1745, becoming Bow Common only from the 1770s, and it was destroyed in the mid-1800s. Burdett Road station served the area from 1871 until it closed in 1941 after wartime damage.
