East Barnet

St Mary the Virgin, Cat Hill and the former Station Road town hall.

East Barnet formed part of the East Barnet Urban District of Hertfordshire from 1894 until 1965, when it transferred to Greater London and merged with other districts to form the London Borough of Barnet, the same seventy-year administrative history that New Barnet shares. But its own centre is the parish church, St Mary the Virgin, standing within the modern Brunswick Park ward, alongside Cat Hill and the former East Barnet Town Hall building, which survives on Station Road from the area's time as an independent local authority.

New Barnet, a mile or so away, grew up around the Great Northern Railway's 1850 station and now trades on East Barnet Road's shopping parade, anchored by a Sainsbury's. East Barnet has no sourced shopping parade of its own to set against that: what it has instead is the church, the green around Cat Hill, and the businesses that operate from homes and small premises serving that quieter, more residential ground.

That difference matters for a website, because a shared council history from before 1965 is exactly the kind of thing that makes a search blur two places that a customer, once they arrive, would never confuse. A site that names St Mary the Virgin and Cat Hill precisely, rather than referring vaguely to “Barnet”, is what tells a customer they've found the right side of the old urban district before they set off.

East Barnet industries

Home-based and small-premises trades decide the shape of the site, not a parade East Barnet doesn't have.

A gardener and a tutor both working near St Mary the Virgin need different websites, but neither one is helped by a page that borrows New Barnet's shopping parade to look busier than East Barnet's own ground is.

A search for “Barnet” doesn't know which Barnet you mean. Your site should say.

“Gardener east barnet”, “tutor en4”, “decorator near me”: every one of these risks landing on a business a mile away on East Barnet Road unless the site names its own ground precisely. Ongoing SEO is monthly work on three agreed searches like these.

  1. 01
    “gardener East Barnet

Made by someone near the church or Cat Hill who wants a business that clearly works this side of the old urban district, not New Barnet's parade a mile away.

  2. 02
    “tutor EN4

Searched by a parent near St Mary the Virgin who wants to confirm a tutor actually covers their end of the postcode before making contact.

  3. 03
    “decorator near me

Typed by someone at home in East Barnet who needs a plainly located site to rule out businesses that are really based on East Barnet Road instead.

Examples only. The three searches are agreed with you around the work you want more of and what customers in East Barnet actually type. Nobody can promise a position, and we don't.

Eighteen months, then the website is yours.

St Mary the Virgin has stood at the area's centre since long before either place became part of Greater London. A website that only ever rents itself back to you monthly doesn't match that kind of staying power. Complete the minimum term here and it belongs to you, whether you stay with PrimeStart or not.

  1. Month 1 We design and build it

Your first £49.99 is taken at signup. We build the website around your business and you approve it before anything is published.

  2. Months 1 to 18 We host, manage and support it

Hosting, security, backups, updates and reasonable small changes, while you make the monthly payments. 18 payments of £49.99, £899.82 in total.

  3. After month 18 The website is yours

Complete the minimum term and the payments due under it, and the website belongs to you. It was built for your business, and it stays with your business.

  4. Your choice Stay, or move it

Stay with PrimeStart at £49.99 a month on a rolling basis with no new minimum term, or move the website to hosting of your own.

Moving the website elsewhere is subject to the third-party licences any website relies on, such as WordPress, plugins, fonts and stock photography. The full wording lives in the Website Subscription Terms.

Questions from East Barnet businesses

Do you work with businesses trading in East Barnet?
Yes, for gardeners, tutors, decorators and home-service trades working near St Mary the Virgin, East Barnet and Cat Hill in EN4. Everything is designed, built and managed remotely, so there is no office to visit.
Is East Barnet the same as New Barnet?
No, even though the two shared an urban district council from 1894 to 1965. New Barnet's own centre is East Barnet Road's shopping parade around its 1850 railway station; East Barnet's own centre is St Mary the Virgin, East Barnet, and Cat Hill, a different place with a different website.
We work near St Mary the Virgin, East Barnet. Which St Mary's is that?
St Mary the Virgin, East Barnet, standing within the modern Brunswick Park ward. There is a separate church with the same dedication, St Mary the Virgin, Monken Hadley, a few miles away in a different part of the borough; the website names yours precisely so a customer isn't sent to the wrong one.
We already have a website we like. Can you just do the SEO?
No. SEO is not sold on its own any more — it is only available as part of Website + SEO, £349.99 a month in total, and that means building you a new PrimeStart website rather than adding search work onto the one you have now. A business in East Barnet would be starting from the same place as everyone else here: a new site built around the trade, with the SEO work running from day one rather than retrofitted onto what already exists. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
What does an East Barnet business website cost?
Website is £49.99 a month with a £0 upfront design fee, and it costs the same in EN4 as anywhere else. The first £49.99 is taken at signup, and there is an 18-month minimum term, £899.82 in total. Once that term is complete, the website is yours.
How does ongoing SEO work?
Website + SEO is £349.99 a month total, with the website included rather than charged on top. Each month we work on three agreed local searches, for example “gardener east barnet” or “tutor en4”, alongside your Google Business Profile and the website itself. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
Is this the same as the New Barnet page?
No. New Barnet's page is about East Barnet Road's railway-built shopping parade. This page is written only for East Barnet's own centre around St Mary the Virgin, East Barnet and Cat Hill, which is a different place despite the shared name and shared council history.
