Frognal itself is a minor road first recorded as a tenement in the 15th century, now known for large, individually architect-commissioned houses rather than for any commercial premises. University College School, an independent day school founded in 1830, relocated here in 1907, and Frognal Way carries the Sun House, a 1935-36 modernist house by Maxwell Fry, and Shepherd's Well nearby. Camden Council treats Frognal as one of eight named sub-areas of the single Hampstead Conservation Area, not as a separate district with its own centre.

That has one direct consequence for anyone trying to be found on Frognal, Frognal Way or Frognal Lane: there is no address on any of the three that a customer walks past on the way to somewhere else.
