Totteridge

N20's lanes were legally in Hertfordshire until 1965, and still have no shopping parade.

The area was called Tataridge in the 13th century. It remained a detached part of the parish of Hatfield, Hertfordshire, until the London Government Act 1963 abolished the parish and transferred Totteridge to Greater London and the new London Borough of Barnet in 1965. Barnet is the only London borough to share a border with a county rather than only other boroughs, and Totteridge's own history is the clearest example of that fact inside the borough.

The ancient yew tree in St Andrew's churchyard, estimated by Kew Gardens experts at about two thousand years old and described as the oldest tree in London, stands on a site with a chapel recorded since 1250. Much of Totteridge was designated a Conservation Area in 1968. No shopping parade or market of any kind was found for Totteridge in research: what trades from Totteridge Lane, Totteridge Common and around Totteridge Green is entirely home-based, professional and service work serving the large properties along them.

For a business here, the county history isn't trivia: real customers on the Hertfordshire side of the old boundary still search as if the county line matters, and a website for an N20 address that states plainly which side you trade from, and how far into Hertfordshire you go, answers a question a London-wide site never has to. With no parade to lean on, the site itself, carrying real photographs of finished work, is the only shopfront this ground has ever had.

In N20, the search happens before anyone ever sees a shopfront, because there isn't one.

"Gardener totteridge", "landscaper n20", "builder near me": every one of these is typed by someone with no parade to walk down and no sign to notice. Ongoing SEO is monthly work on three agreed searches like these.

  1. 01
    “gardener Totteridge

Made by a homeowner on Totteridge Lane or Totteridge Common with a large plot and no local parade to browse, who wants to see finished work on a comparable property before making contact.

  2. 02
    “landscaper N20

Searched by someone in the shared N20 postcode who needs the site to confirm it actually covers Totteridge's larger properties rather than a smaller garden elsewhere in the postcode.

  3. 03
    “builder near me

A near-me search in an N20 area with no parade or passing trade to anchor it, where the actual road name does more of the work than usual.

Examples only. The three searches are agreed with you around the work you want more of and what people in Totteridge actually type. Nobody can promise a position, and we don't.

Totteridge industries

The trade decides the shape of the site. Totteridge's lack of a parade decides what has to be proved first.

A gardener working Totteridge Common and an architect working Totteridge Lane both need different websites, but both are judged entirely on proof of past work, since there is no parade in Totteridge to judge instead.

Questions

Questions from Totteridge businesses

Do you work with businesses trading in Totteridge?
Yes, for the gardeners, builders, architects, interior designers and tutors who work along Totteridge Lane and Totteridge Common in N20. Everything is designed, built and managed remotely, so there is no office to visit.
Totteridge doesn't have a shop or a high street. Does that matter for a website?
It changes what the website is for. There is no shopping parade in N20's Totteridge at all, so the site's whole job is to stand in for a shopfront that doesn't exist: real photographs of finished work and plain, accurate detail on the properties and roads you actually cover.
Should the site mention Totteridge's Hertfordshire history?
Only as plain, dated fact if it's genuinely relevant to how you trade - for example the 1965 transfer of Totteridge into Barnet, or if you also cover the Hertfordshire side of the old boundary. It is never a device for atmosphere, and never a reason to imply anything about property values.
Can the site mention property values on Totteridge Lane?
No. We never publish a house-price or property-value figure for Totteridge, or for any address, under any circumstances.
We already have a website we like. Can you just do the SEO?
No. SEO is not sold on its own any more — it is only available as part of Website + SEO, £349.99 a month in total, and that means building you a new PrimeStart website rather than adding search work onto the one you have now. A business in Totteridge N20 would be starting from the same place as everyone else here: a new site built around the trade, with the SEO work running from day one rather than retrofitted onto what already exists. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
What does a Totteridge business website cost?
Website is £49.99 a month with a £0 upfront design fee, and it costs the same in N20 as anywhere else. The first £49.99 is taken at signup, and there is an 18-month minimum term, £899.82 in total. Once that term is complete, the website is yours.
How does ongoing SEO work?
Website + SEO is £349.99 a month total, with the website included rather than charged on top. Each month we work on three agreed local searches, for example "gardener totteridge" or "landscaper n20", alongside your Google Business Profile and the website itself. Nobody can promise rankings, and we don't.
