This ground was legally part of a different county until 1965, and Barnet is still the only London borough that actually borders one.

Totteridge

N20's lanes were legally in Hertfordshire until 1965, and still have no shopping parade.

The area was called Tataridge in the 13th century. It remained a detached part of the parish of Hatfield, Hertfordshire, until the London Government Act 1963 abolished the parish and transferred Totteridge to Greater London and the new London Borough of Barnet in 1965. Barnet is the only London borough to share a border with a county rather than only other boroughs, and Totteridge's own history is the clearest example of that fact inside the borough.

The ancient yew tree in St Andrew's churchyard, estimated by Kew Gardens experts at about two thousand years old and described as the oldest tree in London, stands on a site with a chapel recorded since 1250. Much of Totteridge was designated a Conservation Area in 1968. No shopping parade or market of any kind was found for Totteridge in research: what trades from Totteridge Lane, Totteridge Common and around Totteridge Green is entirely home-based, professional and service work serving the large properties along them.

For a business here, the county history isn't trivia: real customers on the Hertfordshire side of the old boundary still search as if the county line matters, and a website for an N20 address that states plainly which side you trade from, and how far into Hertfordshire you go, answers a question a London-wide site never has to. With no parade to lean on, the site itself, carrying real photographs of finished work, is the only shopfront this ground has ever had.
