Web design across the Isle of Dogs peninsula
The Isle of Dogs has been a name since 1520 and a boundary only since 1987 - and it still covers three districts that trade nothing alike.
A website that says which of the Isle of Dogs' three districts you actually trade in, for £49.99 a month.
- Website: £49.99/month
- Website design fee: £0 upfront

The name is recorded as early as 2 October 1520, in an entry in the Letters and Papers of Henry VIII noting a hose supplied to a ship 'in dock at the Isle of Dogs'. Ben Jonson and Thomas Nashe wrote a play of that title in 1597, and by 1901 some 21,000 people lived on the peninsula, largely dependent on the river trade, reachable only by bus until the DLR opened in 1987. For all that history, the name itself had no official standing whatsoever until Tower Hamlets London Borough Council created the Isle of Dogs Neighbourhood in 1987 - and its own boundary covers three genuinely different districts: Canary Wharf, Millwall and Cubitt Town. A customer typing the peninsula name could mean any of the three, and a business that says only that leaves them guessing which one. We design, build, host and manage a site that says which district you're actually in, for £49.99 a month, and we can work on your Google visibility once it is live.

Isle of Dogs
One name, three districts, and a boundary that took from 1520 to 1987 to arrive.
The earliest documentary record of the name is that 1520 entry, noting a hose supplied to a ship in dock here. Where the name itself comes from is disputed - the competing explanations include royal kennels, a corruption of Isle of Ducks, Dutch land-reclamation engineers and a yeoman farmer's surname, and the scholar Laura Wright argued in 2015 that it first applied to a small mud eyot used as a mooring point for dockyard vessels from across the river before extending to the whole peninsula. Whatever its origin, the name was in everyday use for centuries with no boundary attached to it at all.
That changed only in 1987, when Tower Hamlets London Borough Council created the Isle of Dogs Neighbourhood. Its own definition of that boundary names three distinct districts inside it: Canary Wharf, Millwall and Cubitt Town. Before the DLR opened that same year, the only way on or off the peninsula by public transport was by bus, and 21,000 people lived here in 1901, most of them dependent on the river trade that has since gone.
None of that history sits on any one street corner, which is exactly the point: 'Isle of Dogs' is a name a customer reaches for before they know which of the three districts they actually mean, and a business that answers by naming its real district gets found by searches the peninsula name alone cannot resolve.
- Canary Wharf, if that's your district
- Millwall, if that's your side of the peninsula
- Cubitt Town, if that's where you trade
- the E14 postcode shared by all three
- the 1987 Neighbourhood boundary that first drew a line here
- how far the walk to your door actually is
We ask which of the three districts you actually trade in before writing a word, because 'Isle of Dogs' or E14 on its own could mean any of them.
Eighteen months, then the website is yours.
The Isle of Dogs name has outlasted every boundary drawn around it since 1520, formalised only in 1987. A website that states your actual district plainly should last at least as long. Complete the minimum term here and it belongs to you, whether you stay with PrimeStart or not.

A search for "Isle of Dogs" or E14 doesn't say which of the three districts you mean.
"Web designer isle of dogs", "estate agent e14", "builder near me": a customer typing any of these could mean Canary Wharf, Millwall or Cubitt Town, three places with three different kinds of trade. Ongoing SEO is monthly work on three agreed searches like these.
- 01“estate agent Isle of Dogs”
Typed by someone who does not yet know that the name covers three genuinely different districts across E14, and needs the result to say plainly which one it means.
- 02“builder E14”
Searched using the E14 postcode because the searcher has heard a business is 'on the Isle of Dogs' and has no way of knowing which of its three districts that puts them in.
- 03“cleaning company near me”
A near-me search that returns results across the whole E14 peninsula unless the site states which district, and therefore which side of it, is actually closest.
Examples only. The three searches are agreed with you around the work you want more of and what people across the peninsula actually type. Nobody can promise a position, and we don't.

Isle of Dogs industries
Whichever district you trade in, the peninsula name alone won't say which one.
An estate agent in one district and a cleaning company in another are both searched for under 'Isle of Dogs' or E14, and both lose the customer who meant the other end of it.
